About The Role
The World Bank Group Explorers program seeks to connect young, high potential talent from donor countries to the work and mission of the World Bank Group (WBG) through an immersive program, working on WBG projects and enhancing global experience. Explorers are appointed for two years and are based in a WBG Country Office, where they contribute to operational and strategic work under the guidance and mentorship of a Task Team Lead (TTL) or Manager. The WBG is composed of five institutions—the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID)—which work together to reduce poverty and promote shared prosperity. This position will be hosted by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and based in IFC’s São Paulo Office, Brazil (CASSP), within the Country Office Team (CASSP). Objective of the Assignment The goal of this position is to support IFC’s Country Office Team in Brazil (CASSP) with research, coordination, and reporting tasks that contribute to country strategy work, pipeline and portfolio monitoring, and day-to-day engagement with internal and external stakeholders, under the guidance of the TTL. Reporting Lines Work Relationships • Direct reporting line: Reports directly to the assigned TTL. • Key internal counterparts: Regional Director, Senior Country Officer, Operations Officer, Investment, Advisory, and Upstream teams, as well as other relevant IFC departments that support World Bank Group strategic products and country diagnostics. • Key external counterparts: Government and locally based stakeholders; development finance institutions, donors, and IFC member governments; potential and existing clients. Duties and Responsibilities Working under the supervision of the Task Team Lead (TTL) and in close coordination with the Regional Director, Senior Country Officer, Operations Officer, and relevant IFC departments, the selected candidate will contribute to the following activities: • Monitor and summarize key political, macroeconomic, sectoral, and financial-market developments, and support the preparation of internal updates and management reports. • Support strategy implementation monitoring by helping track progress against targets and maintaining action logs/trackers for strategic initiatives. • Compile, clean, and analyze pipeline and portfolio data (in aggregate and by sector) and support the preparation of institutional presentations and briefs. • Coordinate with IFC Investment, Advisory, and Upstream teams throughout the project cycle by supporting information flow, preparing background notes, and tracking milestones and next steps. • Conduct business research, sector scans, and client mapping for selected sectors to support business development, upstream work, and Maximizing Finance for Development efforts. • Support integrity-related workstreams by conducting preliminary stakeholder/client integrity screening and organizing relevant documentation, escalating issues to the TTL and responsible colleagues. • Contribute to the development of WBG strategic products for Brazil (e.g., diagnostics and country strategy documents) through research, drafting support, and consolidation of inputs. • Prepare communication, briefing, and outreach materials for internal and external audiences, including support for senior management briefings and missions (agendas, talking points, meeting notes). • Support stakeholder outreach and relationship management with government counterparts, development finance institutions, donors, and IFC member governments, including assistance in organizing meetings and maintaining contact/engagement trackers. • Provide ad hoc support to IFC corporate initiatives and cross-cutting workstreams as requested by the TTL and country management.
