About The Role
The World Bank's portfolio in Brazil is substantial, comprising 52 projects under implementation with total commitments of US$9.63 billion, alongside four trust funds totaling US$120 million. The portfolio is both diverse and complex, engaging clients across federal, regional, state, and municipal levels, with a geographical reach spanning all five regions of the country. Since 2023, demand for IBRD financing has grown significantly. IBRD has progressively expanded its program in Brazil, delivering 14 new operations in Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 (US$1.92 billion in new commitments), 16 new operations in FY25 (US$3.86 billion), and is on track to close FY26 with 18 new operations totaling US$4.65 billion. Looking ahead, 25 operations are in the pipeline for FY27 and FY28, representing US$5.5 billion in new commitments. The LC5 (Brazil) Country Management Unit (CMU) is led by a Country Director (CD) based in Brasília, who steers the strategic dialogue with the client and oversees the program's design and delivery. An Operations Manager (OM) is responsible for portfolio oversight and office administration, supervising a team of approximately 20 ACS staff. The broader Country Management team also includes a Senior Operations Officer, one Operations Officer, two Operations Analysts, and two Program Assistants. The Brazil Country Office is one of the Bank's largest, with over 90 staff working across the program and five staff in a decentralized regional disbursement unit. The LC5 CMU is seeking an adaptable, energetic, and proactive professional to support the Country Operations Team, take on special assignments as needed, and serve as a catalyst for advancing the CMU's diversity agenda. The selected candidate will work closely with the Operations Team and CMU staff across the full breadth of the unit's work. Objective This TOR aims to seek a qualified and highly motivated person to work in the Brazil Operations team. The successful candidate will support the CMU in coordinating the programming and implementation of the Bank program in Brazil, monitor the portfolio’s business development, project preparation and implementation. He/she will also support technical teams in addressing various operational issues. The successful candidate will be a core member of the LC5 Operations Team and will engage in and contribute to broader office team initiatives. Duties and Responsibilities Expected tasks include: • Support the program’s monitoring and assist with specific tasks, as required (e.g., preparing periodic portfolio tracking on disbursements and reports on historical data). • Support administrative tasks, including preparing draft presentations and formatting documents. • Monitor pipeline and project's milestones and support the preparation of inputs for the Operational meetings, including portfolio/pipeline monitoring meetings. • Provide on-demand operational support to the Global Practice teams and Regional teams as requested by the Operations Manager. • Support the monitoring of the “informação” email account where information requests on Brazil operations are received; liaise with corresponding teams and draft responses to be shared withthe team. • Support on data analysis, as needed. • Support the Country Portfolio Performance Review (CPPR) and other Assignment Structure The assignment will last for two years from the date of hiring and selected candidate will be based in Brasilia, Brazil.
