Occupational Hygiene Manager ROLE PROFILE GENERAL Date December 2025 Location Aggeneys, Northern Cape Operations (Please indicate the operation – by ticking the appropriate box) GB BMM Job Grade D4 (Paterson) / M4 (Vedanta) ROLE CONTEXT Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) operates large ‑ scale mining and processing facilities at Gamsberg and Black Mountain Mine (BMM), each presenting distinct occupational health exposure risks related to mining methods, processing activities and project interfaces. Each operation requires a dedicated Occupational Hygiene Manager to provide site ‑ based leadership, governance and technical oversight of occupational hygiene programmes, ensuring compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), DMRE Codes of Practice, Vedanta Group HSE & ESG Standards, and recognised industry best practice. The Occupational Hygiene Manager is responsible for the full ownership of occupational hygiene performance at their respective operation, including exposure monitoring, risk assessment, reporting, regulatory engagement and continuous improvement. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE Reporting to the Chief HSE & ESG, the Occupational Hygiene Manager is accountable for leading, managing and continuously improving occupational hygiene systems at their assigned operation (Gamsberg or BMM) to: · Protect employee health · Ensure full legal and regulatory compliance · Reduce occupational exposure risks · Maintain audit ‑ ready systems and reporting · Support safe, sustainable mining operations RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Occupational Hygiene Leadership & Governance · Lead the Occupational Hygiene function at the assigned operation. · Implement site ‑ specific occupational hygiene strategies aligned to Group standards. · Provide expert advice to operational leadership on hygiene risks and controls. · Represent Occupational Hygiene in site HSE, risk and production planning forums. 2. Exposure Monitoring & Risk Assessment · Oversee dust, noise, heat stress, ventilation, gases, fumes, chemical and ergonomic monitoring. · Ensure Exposure Profiles (OREPs) are developed and maintained for all job categories. · Lead baseline, issue ‑ based and continuous risk assessments for the operation. · Drive early identification and management of occupational disease risks. 3. Legal Compliance, Reporting & DMRE Engagement · Ensure full compliance with MHSA Chapter 9, DMRE requirements and Codes of Practice. · Prepare and submit statutory hygiene ‑ related reports for the operation. · Lead DMRE inspections, audits and compliance engagements specific to the site. · Maintain complete and audit ‑ ready compliance records. 4. Exposure Control Strategies & Continuous Improvement · Develop and implement exposure control strategies aligned to site risk profiles. · Work with Engineering, Processing and Mining teams on engineering controls. · Monitor effectiveness of controls and implement improvement initiatives. 5. Occupational Hygiene Systems, Data & Technology · Own hygiene data integrity, monitoring systems and reporting platforms at site. · Ensure accurate data capture, analysis and reporting. · Support deployment and use of digital and real ‑ time hygiene monitoring technologies. 6. Business Partner & Project Oversight · Ensure business partner compliance with hygiene standards at the operation. · Support major projects, shutdowns and expansions with hygiene inputs. · Conduct contractor hygiene audits and inspections. 7. Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory Support · Engage Mining, Engineering, Processing, HR, Medical and Safety teams at site. · Provide operational advice on PPE, ventilation, exposure mitigation and health risks. · Liaise with DMRE, SAIOH, laboratories and specialist consultants. 8. Training, Awareness & Capability Building · Develop and deliver hygiene awareness and training programmes at site. · Build hygiene capability within operational teams and the hygiene function. 9. People Leadership & Budget Management · Lead and develop the site Occupational Hygiene team. · Conduct performance management and development planning. · Manage hygiene budgets, forecasts and cost control at the operation. 10. Safety, Risk & Compliance · Complete required Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) sessions, Gemba Walks, Planned Task Observations (PTOs), Risk Assessments and Issue ‑ Based Risk Assessments (IBRAs) as defined by the Company. · Ensure all occupational hygiene activities comply with VZI safety standards, MHSA requirements and internal risk ‑ control frameworks. · Promote a culture of safety, compliance and proactive risk management across all operations. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Qualifications · Degree in Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field and/or Advanced Certificate in Mine Environmental Control (Chamber of Mines). · Registration with SAIOH as an Occupational Hygienist (Occupational Hygienist or Occupational Hygiene Technologist) and/or registered as an active member of the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa. · Legal appointment in terms of MHSA Section 12(1) and/or Section 7(2). · Valid driver’s licence and medical fitness. Experience · 8–10 years’ experience in occupational hygiene within the mining industry. · At least 3 -5 years in a supervisory or managerial role. · Experience in open ‑ pit and/or underground mining environments advantageous. · Experience engaging with DMRE inspectors and statutory bodies. · Experience managing multi ‑ site occupational hygiene programmes. · Experience in budgeting, cost control and resource planning. Technical Competence · Strong knowledge of MHSA, DMRE guidelines, SANS standards and occupational hygiene best practice. · Expertise in dust, noise, heat, ventilation, chemical and ergonomic monitoring. · Understanding of engineering controls, ventilation systems and exposure reduction strategies. · Proficiency in occupational hygiene software, sampling equipment and digital reporting tools. · Knowledge of Vedanta Group HSE & ESG Standards (advantageous).
