GENERAL Date December 2025 Location Aggeneys, Northern Cape Operations (Please indicate the operation – by ticking the appropriate box) GB BMM Job Grade C2 (Paterson) / Below M9 (Vedanta) ROLE CONTEXT Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) operates two major mining complexes in the Northern Cape: · Gamsberg – a large-scale open ‑ pit zinc operation requiring high ‑ precision drill & blast execution to achieve fragmentation, slope stability and production targets. · Black Mountain Mine (BMM) – an underground operation where drill & blast quality directly influences development advance, stope performance, dilution control and safety. The Rigger (C2) is responsible for the safe planning, preparation, inspection, movement, lifting, positioning, and securing of heavy equipment, machinery, materials, and structures using cranes, hoists, winches, lifting tackle, and rigging equipment. The role supports maintenance, shutdown, construction, mining, manufacturing, and engineering operations by ensuring all lifting activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with statutory regulations, company standards, and industry best practices. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The Rigger works in potentially hazardous environments and regularly collaborates with crane operators, artisans, engineers, supervisors, contractors, and safety personnel. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, technical competence, and attention to detail to prevent incidents and ensure operational continuity. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Lifting and Rigging Operations · Plan and execute lifting and rigging activities according to approved lifting plans. · Select appropriate lifting tackles and rigging equipment for specific loads. · Attach, move, position, and secure loads safely and efficiently. · Direct crane operators and other lifting personnel during lifting operations. · Ensure correct load balancing and weight distribution. 2. Inspection and Maintenance · Conduct pre-use inspections of lifting equipment and accessories. · Identify damaged, defective, or unsafe rigging equipment. · Remove defective equipment from service and report findings. · Inspect, repair and maintain lifting tackles and lifting equipment. · Keep and maintain inspection records, load tests certificates additionally ensure all working at heights equipment is utilised safely. 3. Communication and Coordination · Coordinate lifting activities with supervisors and operational teams. · Use approved hand signals and communication systems effectively. · Communicate hazards, risks, and operational requirements to relevant stakeholders. · Assist in planning complex and critical lifts. 4. Housekeeping and Equipment Care · Maintain rigging tools and equipment in good working condition. · Ensure lifting gear storage areas remain organized and compliant. · Maintain good housekeeping standards in work areas. 8. Safety, Risk & Regulatory Compliance · Adhere to all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements. · Conduct risk assessments before commencing lifting activities. · Ensure lifting operations comply with legal and company requirements. · Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident investigations. · Stop work when unsafe conditions or practices are identified. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Qualifications · Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent. · Valid Rigger Trade Certificate / Red Seal qualification. · Relevant lifting and rigging certification. · Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements. Experience · Minimum 2-3 years' rigging experience in an Concentrator Plant and Mining, engineering, or construction environment. · Experience with heavy lifting equipment and complex lifting operations. · Familiarity with shutdowns, maintenance projects, and plant operations.
