About The Role

Summary: The primary care and preventive medicine veterinarian incorporates evidence-based veterinary medicine to support a stable and diverse caseload that enhances clinical learning for veterinary students. This role focuses on guiding students as they build competence and confidence in essential elements of a competency-based veterinary education within a teaching hospital setting. This position involves delivering primary care services, conducting health exams, and addressing preventive medicine needs for small animal patients. Additionally, this role includes facilitating diagnostic testing and providing information that supports disease prevention and animal health management for owners. Collaboration with veterinary team members and engagement in teaching activities form a central part of the role. Duties and Responsibilities: Contributes to building and maintaining a stable and diverse small animal primary care and preventive medicine caseload for clinical learning Supervises and instructs final-year veterinary students during owner interviews, patient examinations, and delivery of primary care services Maintains accurate, timely, and comprehensive medical records Supports third-year veterinary students in developing clinical skills during vaccination clinics Provides feedback and completes formal assessments and grading for students in primary care and preventive medicine rotations Contributes to teaching activities, including lectures, laboratories, and demonstrations Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment Qualifications: A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent A relevant advanced degree, specialized training, or both is an asset Licensed with the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association Minimum of two years of clinical practice experience or an internship Experience in small animal general practice and clinical instruction, teaching, or mentorship is preferred Strong communication and interpersonal abilities Effective organizational and time-management capabilities High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team
