About The Role

Position Summary The Associate Director of Finance Accounting provides leadership for the financial and accounting operations of UICOMP within the University of Illinois Chicago. Reporting to the Executive Director of Fiscal Affairs, the Associate Director is responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting support, compliance, and internal controls across the College's academic, clinical, and research missions. This role operates within a complex academic medical environment that includes faculty practice activities (Medical Service Plans), hospital and health system affiliations, sponsored research, and state and institutional funding. The Associate Director is expected to work effectively within established University of Illinois financial systems, policies, and governance structures, and to collaborate closely with campus and system offices to support College and University priorities. Duties Responsibilities Lead the College’s accounting and financial operations and provide strategic financial analysis to support academic, clinical, and research decision-making. Serve as a trusted financial advisor to department leaders while promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger management, reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes. Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting to and in compliance with University, State, and regulatory requirements. Direct the development and ongoing management of operating and capital budgets across multiple funding sources. Monitor financial performance, support variance analysis, and contribute to multi-year financial planning and strategic initiatives. Provide financial support for clinical operation to include Revenue Cycle collaboration and department clinical performance analysis. Support financial system interfaces (i.e. EPIC, Banner, University warehouses) to ensure accurate clinical activity and revenue reporting. Assist with analyses related to compensation models and alignment of clinical and financial academic priorities. Ensure compliance with applicable University, State, federal, and sponsor requirements while maintaining strong internal controls. Serve as the primary liaison for internal and external audits and financial reviews. Support the financial management of grants and contracts in collaboration with the Office of Research Services, principal investigators, and applicable departments. Provide guidance on cost allowability and transfers, effort-related issues, and award closeout to ensure compliance and financial integrity. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, transparency, and reporting capabilities. Collaborate with data and systems partners to strengthen financial analytics and participate in campus- and system-level initiatives. Supervise and develop finance and accounting staff while supporting training and professional growth. Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
