Job Details Particular Details Position & Designation Process Plant Engineer – Mechanical Division & Department RTIC – Technology Development Reporting To Operations Head / Project Manager Place of Posting Thermax – Pune – RTIC 2. Job Profile A. Key Objective To manage and support the operation, mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, modification and trial activities of pilot/process plants related to Coal/Biomass-to-Methanol, DME, H₂, Biofuels, Carbon Capture & Utilization and other emerging technologies. B. Major Deliverables Ensure availability and readiness of process plants and mechanical equipment for planned trials and campaigns. · Manage and support overall pilot/process plant operation , including shift operations and troubleshooting. Carry out mechanical maintenance, inspection and troubleshooting of process equipment and utilities. Review and understand PFDs, P&IDs, HMBs, equipment drawings and mechanical specifications . Support design, selection and sizing of mechanical/process equipment , including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, blowers, piping and other associated equipment. Support installation, erection, commissioning and modification of process plant equipment and systems. Coordinate with vendors for equipment supply, service, inspection, repair and troubleshooting of critical mechanical equipment. Coordinate with internal manufacturing, engineering, procurement and project teams for plant-related activities. Manage spares, consumables and mechanical maintenance requirements for plant operation. Support execution of short-duration and long-duration plant trials/campaigns and ensure equipment readiness. Identify operational/mechanical issues during trials and provide effective troubleshooting and corrective actions . Maintain proper documentation of maintenance, modifications, equipment history and trial-related activities . Support preparation of trial reports and technical documentation . Ensure safe and reliable operation of mechanical equipment in coordination with the operations and safety teams. Visit client/project sites as required for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and trial activities. 3. Essential Attributes Strong understanding of process plant equipment, mechanical systems and relevant unit operations . Hands-on experience with equipment such as: Compressors Pumps Blowers Heat exchangers Pressure vessels Boilers Cooling towers Burners Filter presses Nitrogen PSA systems Process piping and associated mechanical equipment Experience in plant maintenance, troubleshooting, erection, commissioning and modification activities . Working knowledge of PFDs, P&IDs, HMBs, equipment drawings and mechanical specifications . Experience in pilot plant/process plant operations and trial campaigns will be preferred. Experience with fluidized-bed systems will be an added advantage. Ability to work in shifts and support plant trials as required . Good coordination skills with cross-functional teams, vendors, contractors and internal manufacturing functions . Self-starter with strong ownership, problem-solving and execution capability . Good communication and documentation skills. Ability to handle manpower and coordinate multiple plant activities efficiently. 4. Experience Particular Requirement Total Desirable Experience 6–8 years Minimum Relevant Experience 7 years Preferred Industry Experience Chemical / Fertilizer / Refinery / Petrochemical / Process Plant / Energy 5. Qualification Degree in Mechanical Engineering . 6. Desired Type of Experience Process/pilot plant operation and maintenance Mechanical equipment maintenance and troubleshooting Process plant erection and commissioning Mechanical equipment selection and basic design/sizing Plant modification and debottlenecking Vendor and contractor coordination Trial/campaign execution in technology development or process plants Experience in Coal/Biomass-to-Chemicals, Methanol, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Gasification or similar emerging technologies will be preferred. 7. Other Information Experience in companies/industries related to chemical, fertilizer, refinery, petrochemical, process plant, energy or technology development will be preferred.
