About The Role
Launch your career in wastewater modelling with Tetra Tech Purpose and scope of the role: Join Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy team in Edinburgh and support a range of wastewater modelling and data analysis projects, from local network investigations to major infrastructure programmes. You will help develop, run and maintain hydraulic and statistical models, handle and interpret large datasets, produce factual and interpretative reports, and support client and stakeholder communication. Working within multidisciplinary project teams, you will collaborate with experienced modellers and contribute to the delivery of high-quality technical outputs for a wide variety of clients. Your impact in this position: In the short term, you will support live projects by producing accurate data outputs, model results and clear technical documentation. Over time, you will take greater ownership of smaller modelling tasks, contribute to model development and analysis, and build your confidence in client communication. Longer term, this role offers strong development opportunities, including support towards chartership and progression into more senior technical modelling roles, with exposure to important regional and national projects. Core Capabilities: Data analysis – Ability to handle, clean and interpret large datasets accurately, including statistical treatment, quality assurance and clear presentation of findings. Modelling and hydraulics – Understanding of wastewater and hydraulic modelling, with the capability to build, test, document and maintain models effectively. Reporting and communication – Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare concise technical reports and explain findings to technical and non-technical audiences. Software and GIS – Confident use of Excel and familiarity with GIS software such as QGIS or ArcGIS; experience with modelling tools or scripting would be advantageous. Teamwork and development – A collaborative, adaptable approach with a willingness to learn and develop professionally, including progress towards training and chartership. Skills, qualifications and experience: Expected: A degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Data Science or a closely related discipline, alongside good communication and basic computing skills. Desirable: Experience or modules in wastewater modelling, hydraulics, hydrology, GIS, statistical analysis or programming, plus any internship or placement experience. Work patterns and locations: Based in our Edinburgh office with hybrid working following probation. During probation, the role is full time in the office. After probation, you can expect to be in the office around two to three days per week, with occasional site visits and in-person team activities.
