OVERVIEW

Matrix Technologies is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Industrial Electrical Design team. This role is focused on the design and implementation of industrial electrical systems, control panels, motor control centers (MCCs), and variable frequency drive (VFD) systems for a wide range of industrial clients.

The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex electrical design challenges, developing detailed construction and fabrication packages, and working closely with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams. This position is centered on electrical engineering and control panel design rather than PLC programming.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions while mentoring junior engineers and helping drive successful project execution from concept through startup.

This is a hybrid role based out of our Atlanta office in Peachtree City, GA. The position is salaried and includes eligibility for overtime pay.

WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING ON

  • PLC control panel design
  • MCC and VFD panel design
  • PLC I/O design and electrical schematics
  • Motor control circuits
  • UL508A and NEC-compliant electrical designs
  • Industrial automation projects for manufacturing, food & beverage, chemical, and pharmaceutical clients
  • Multi-discipline EPC and design-build projects
  • Field installation support, startup assistance, and client interaction

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and develop electrical control packages based on project requirements and process documentation (P&IDs).
  • Develop PLC I/O schematics, panel layouts, and bills of material.
  • Design motor control circuits, MCC interfaces, and VFD systems.
  • Develop three-line diagrams, cable schedules, and conduit layouts.
  • Apply NEC, NFPA, and UL standards to project designs.
  • Prepare project scopes of work, design concepts, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with clients, internal engineering disciplines, and contractors throughout project execution.
  • Support installation activities, contractor bid walks, startup activities, and I/O verification.
  • Lead portions of projects and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Promote and uphold Matrix safety standards, project methodologies, and engineering best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEE/BSEET) from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience designing industrial control panels, MCCs, VFD systems, or automation-related electrical systems.
  • Experience developing electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of material.
  • Knowledge of NEC and industrial electrical design standards.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20-25%, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Preferred

  • FE or PE certification.
  • UL508A knowledge and experience.
  • AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD, or similar electrical design software experience.
  • Experience with PLC hardware, industrial control networks, instrumentation, and automation systems.
  • EPC project experience.
  • Experience in food & beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing industries.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk, and hear.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This employee may perform industrial field work, which could include exposure to hazardous locations, inclement weather, moving mechanical parts, noise, ladders, uneven ground, and stairs.

This employee may perform industrial field work, which could include exposure to a wide range of known food allergens.

We offer market-competitive compensation for a Senior Electrical Engineer-Industrial Electrical Design with a base range of

$90,000 to $128,000

annually that includes profit sharing, ESOP participation, 401(k) matching, and overtime pay. Salaries are based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
