Job Description
Project Title : Process Modelling & Techno-Economic Evaluation of Moisture Swing Adsorption for CO₂ Capture
Background
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is a key pillar in achieving net-zero emissions. Among emerging capture technologies, Moisture Swing Adsorption (MSA) is a novel concept that enables CO₂ capture driven by humidity changes rather than thermal regeneration. This offers the potential for:
- Lower energy consumption compared to conventional amine-based capture
- Simplified process configurations
MSA systems rely on sorbents that adsorb CO₂ under dry conditions and release it when exposed to moisture. Despite promising lab-scale results, further work is required to evaluate process performance at scale and economic feasibility in real applications.
Objective of the Internship
- The objective of this internship is to develop a process modelling framework and perform a techno-economic evaluation of Moisture Swing Adsorption systems for CO₂ capture.
- The intern will quantify performance limits, identify key design parameters, and assess the competitiveness of MSA relative to conventional capture technologies.
Scope of Work
- Understand Moisture Swing Adsorption technology and consolidate key performance data from literature and internal sources.
- Adapt the process model of the MSA system to evaluate mass and energy balances changes as a consequence of adsorbent experimental results.
- Evaluate & optimize process performance , including CO₂ capture efficiency, energy use, and operational drivers.
- Perform equipment sizing and a techno-economic assessment to estimate cost of CO₂ capture and identify key economic drivers.
- Assess application potential in relevant use cases (e.g., flue gas) and highlight scale-up considerations.
-
Deliverables
- Process model (documented and reproducible)
- Technical report including:
- Modelling methodology
- Key assumptions and data sources
- Performance results and sensitivity analysis
- Techno-economic assessment
Final presentation to stakeholders
