About The Role

Job Summary

Coordinates the daily operations of the Biological Sciences Department. Assists in the development and support of programs and initiatives. Assists with marketing materials, student recruitment, student course and program planning, budget, program assessment, and department data and reports. Provides administrative support for faculty and students in the Biological Sciences academic undergraduate B.S. programs and the graduate M.S. program, while assisting the department chair in managing administration of the department, including scheduling, budgeting, contracts, advising and co-curricular programming. In addition, serves as the liaison to and communicates with other university offices, departments, students, community organizations, and other agencies.

Authority and Accountability

Position reports to directly to Department Chair, has responsibility over budget planning and contracts. Supports graduate program and works with Graduate Program Director as required.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: 3 years' experience providing administrative support.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

General knowledge of and skill in the practical application of generally accepted office practices and procedures. Ability to communicate effective both orally and in writing. Ability to proofread and edit written documents. Skill in various computer software packages, such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation programs, Internet, email and calendaring software. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to interact effectively with internal and external parties in a courteous and efficient manner. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute multiple and continuing assignments with general instructions.

OTHER

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree
  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology or other science discipline
  • Understanding of undergraduate and graduate Biology programs and discipline

Additional Job Information

The position is a full-time, non-exempt state role with comprehensive benefits.
