Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant as to a technical specialty, a type of facility, industry, equipment or program function.
Actively involved with clients and business development.
Work requires an expert knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of the principles and practices of related specialties.

a. Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
b. Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, machines, and bulk material handling mechanical systems
c. Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
d. Coordinates operation, maintenance and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment.
e. Design products and systems to interface machines, hardware and software.
f. Evaluates field installations and recommends design modification to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
