Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis. FLSA Status Non-Exempt Job Role Summary Make a Difference Through Exceptional Patient Service Are you passionate about helping others and creating a positive experience for patients? As a Room Service Associate (PRN) , you'll play an important role in supporting patient care by ensuring meals are prepared, delivered, and served accurately, safely, and with compassion. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare environment and take pride in delivering outstanding customer service. In this role, you will assist with patient meal service, tray assembly and delivery, inventory management, sanitation, and food service operations throughout the hospital. Every interaction is an opportunity to enhance the patient experience and support their healing journey. Essential Functions and Responsibilities What You'll Do Patient Meal Service & Delivery Assemble and deliver patient meal trays accurately and efficiently according to prescribed diets and meal orders. Verify patient identity using established hospital procedures before meal delivery. Communicate with nursing staff regarding special dietary needs, isolation precautions, insulin schedules, and other patient requirements. Deliver snacks, nutritional supplements, and enteral feeding products as needed. Ensure meal service meets established quality, accuracy, and timeliness standards. Customer Service & Patient Experience Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, guests, and team members. Serve as a positive representative of the Nutrition Services department. Respond professionally and compassionately to patient needs and requests. Advocate for patient comfort by communicating special accommodations to the appropriate care team members. Food Safety & Inventory Management Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention guidelines, including proper hand hygiene and PPE use. Adhere to Indiana State Department of Health regulations, Joint Commission standards, and departmental policies. Rotate food products using the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method. Stock and replenish food, pantry items, refrigerators, freezers, and patient care area supplies. Cleaning & Sanitation Collect and transport soiled trays, dishware, and service items from patient care units. Wash, sanitize, and restock dishes and meal service equipment. Complete daily cleaning assignments to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Properly handle and use cleaning chemicals and equipment. Team Support Assist coworkers and support departmental operations as needed. Complete required documentation and maintain accurate records. Help onboard and train new team members and students when assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Requirements What We're Looking For Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One (1) year of general work experience OR current enrollment in a college, university, or vocational program. Strong communication and customer service skills.
