Join the SCOT (Supply Chain Optimization Technologies) Forecasting team, where you'll work on forecasting models that help Amazon predict and optimize inventory across our global network.

As a Software Development Engineer on the SCOT Forecasting model engineering team, you'll use innovative technology to solve complex problems and see the impact of your work first-hand on millions of products and customers worldwide.

Key job responsibilities

Build Scalable Forecasting Systems

  • Design and develop large-scale, distributed forecasting systems that process massive datasets to predict demand across Amazon's supply chain
  • Create solutions to run ML predictions on distributed systems with exposure to innovative technologies at incredible scale and speed
  • Build distributed storage, index, and query systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage/use

Drive Innovation in Forecasting Technology

  • Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians including ML scientists, product managers, and operations teams to conceive, design, and bring innovative forecasting products and services to market
  • Design and build technologies that lead fundamental changes in how Amazon approaches demand forecasting and inventory optimization
  • Work with new wave ML frameworks and forecasting algorithms to improve prediction accuracy and system performance

Deliver High-Quality Software

  • Design and code the right solutions starting with broadly defined problems in the forecasting domain
  • Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software with development cycles measured in weeks, not years
  • Participate in code reviews, establish coding standards, and mentor junior engineers on best practices

A day in the life

The challenges you'll solve are big and influence millions of customers, sellers, and products around the world. You might start your day reviewing model performance metrics, then collaborate with ML scientists to implement a new forecasting algorithm, followed by designing the architecture for a new feature pipeline. You'll manage ambiguity as you balance technical excellence with the fast pace of a team where innovation is constant and impact is measurable.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
