Scope of Services

As an independent contractor providing dyslexia intervention services, you will

Deliver Intervention

Plan and provide dyslexia intervention services, ensuring alignment with each student's IEP.

Participate in Assessment

Contribute to evaluations to assess students with dyslexia and support eligibility determinations for services.

Collaborate

Work alongside the multidisciplinary team to advance literacy skills in students.

Share Expertise

Provide insight and training to school personnel to support identification and understanding of dyslexia.

Services are delivered using research-based instruction consistent with the Texas Dyslexia Handbook and applicable district dyslexia policies and procedures, typically in a small-group format.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university

Certification/Licensure

Valid driver's license; Texas Teaching Certificate with Reading Specialist Certification,

or

  • certification in a multi-sensory structured language program for dyslexia (e.g., Wilson, Take Flight, Barton, Reading by Design, MTA)
  • BLS certification
  • required for this position

Language

Monolingual or bilingual

Preferred Experience

Minimum of five years teaching experience; demonstrated knowledge of dyslexia and instruction of students identified with dyslexia and related disorders

Independent Contractor Terms

Compensation is paid as contract fees against submitted invoices; no taxes are withheld. A completed W-9 is required prior to the start of services.

The contractor is solely responsible for all federal, state, and self-employment taxes.

No employee benefits are provided, including health, dental, or vision insurance; retirement plans; disability or life insurance; or paid leave.

The contractor maintains their own professional liability insurance and is responsible for keeping all required certifications and licensure current at their own expense.

The contractor determines the means and methods of service delivery, subject to the requirements of the IEP, the Texas Dyslexia Handbook, and applicable district and campus policies.

Service dates, locations, and rates are set out in a written independent contractor agreement.

Engagement is contingent upon a satisfactory background check permitting work in a public school setting.
