Key Responsibilities The key responsibilities of the BeOne Discovery Biology team include, but are not limited to: Provide scientific leadership in target and disease biology, with a strong focus on immunology, inflammation, and immuno-oncology. Drive new target identification, evaluation, and validation, and define critical path studies to support hypothesis-driven drug discovery. Serve as a biology lead for small molecule discovery programs from target identification through candidate nomination, leveraging deep understanding of disease mechanisms, target biology, and translational pharmacology. Contribute to the discovery and mechanistic characterization of innovative therapeutics, with particular emphasis on small molecules while collaborating across other modalities, including PROTACs, ADCs, RIPTACs and other emerging therapeutic platforms. Lead or support preclinical project teams in a cross-functional matrix environment, providing strategic biological insights to guide project progression and decision-making. Initiate and drive new research programs, develop comprehensive research strategies, and support target validation, modality selection, hit identification, lead optimization, and candidate nomination. Design and execute mechanistic studies to elucidate target biology, pathway modulation, pharmacodynamics, and drug mechanism of action using advanced cellular and molecular approaches. Develop translationally relevant in vitro and ex vivo models using primary immune cells, tumor cells, co-culture systems, and immune functional assays to support drug discovery efforts. Establish and implement target validation strategies through comprehensive analysis of scientific literature, omics datasets, genetic evidence, and preclinical disease models. Provide scientific leadership across multiple programs, ensuring alignment among biology, chemistry, DMPK, translational medicine, biomarker, and clinical teams. Develop and optimize robust cellular assays suitable for target validation, screening, lead optimization, and pharmacological characterization using low-, mid-, and high-throughput platforms. Apply innovative approaches to solve complex biological and technical challenges related to target validation, pathway biology, and compound characterization. Analyze, interpret, and communicate scientific findings effectively to internal governance committees and external collaborators through high-quality reports, presentations, and publications. Requirements PhD in Immunology, Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, or a related life science discipline, with 5+ years of relevant industry and/or postdoctoral experience. Deep expertise in immunology/immuno-oncology, including immune cell biology, cytokine signaling, innate and adaptive immunity, immune regulation, and disease mechanisms in cancer and/or immune-mediated diseases. Demonstrated track record of contributing to or leading small molecule drug discovery programs, including target identification/validation, hit-to-lead, lead optimization, and candidate nomination. Strong understanding of target assessment, pharmacology, biomarker strategy, and translational research principles related to small molecule therapeutics. Extensive hands-on experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture, genetic perturbation technologies (CRISPR, RNAi), transfection/transduction, flow cytometry, imaging-based assays, and functional immune cell assays. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Chinese is highly desirable.
