About The Role

**This fixed term role is supported by grant funding that is approved for a one-year period**

This specialist supports the financial management of donor-funded awards throughout the full grant lifecycle - from proposal development to grant closeout and audit preparation. This role assists in ensuring accountability, transparency, and compliance with donor and organizational financial requirements. The specialist contributes to routine financial planning activities, prepares basic financial analyses, and helps identify potential financial risks to the organization and project partners. The incumbent assists in the conduct of financial analysis and contributes to foundational knowledge of grant financial management, donor regulations, and internal processes and controls.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands the mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.
  • Supports grant financial management throughout the full award lifecycle, assisting with preparation of budget, collect and ensure the completeness of supporting documentation for submission, variance analysis reports, routine financial reports, closeout documentation, and audit materials as directed.
  • Assists with financial reporting related to institutional grants. Utilizes financial reporting systems to track grant expenditures and prepare reports for donor-specific requirements as needed.
  • Coordinates with partner teams and field accounting staff to ensure that procured goods are tracked, documented, utilized, and dispositioned at the end of grants according to donor requirements and organizational policies.
  • May assist with vendor screening while coordinating with external auditors during donor audits and assist in the preparation of audit schedules and documentation.
  • Assists with components of budgets for government and multilateral donor-funded projects, contributing to accurate and realistic financial planning.
  • Supports the core grants team to ensure seamless coordination and integration of financial and programmatic activities.
  • May support enhancements to procurement-related financial management.
  • As directed, supports training efforts for program staff regarding financial management for institutional, government, and multilateral donor grants requirements.
  • Frequently works under the guidance and direction of a manager or senior specialists.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification from a nationally or internationally recognized organization in a related field.
