About The Role
Due to a recent success in securing new portfolio of works, Costain TFL framework team are looking to hire a Site Engineer. This role is in the Operations Engineering job family, supporting Costain project delivery of the Brent Cross Structures Programme. The scheme includes both structural and highway maintenance, repairs and upgrades to the TfL network.
The primary purpose of a site engineer is to ensure that construction projects are completed accurately and safely. They provide technical assurance, manage on-site works, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. Site engineers are responsible for overseeing all on-site activities to ensure they align with the project’s design, specifications, and legal requirements. They also manage daily site activities, solve problems that arise during construction, and help keep the project running smoothly from start to finish. The roads project includes the delivery of both permanent and temporary works in accordance with the certified design. Opportunity to develop engineering delivery experience and grow within role. Packages of work include – Concrete repairs and structural concrete, pavement, drainage, expansion joints, structural waterproofing, parapets and vehicle restraint, highway works, temporary works.

Responsibilities
- Communicating the plan – suppliers, foreman, stakeholders, management
- Start of Shift – co-ordination of daily work activities for briefings
- Toolbox Talks – prepare and brief, confirm understanding
- Develop safe systems of work inc. prepare, review, approve Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Setting out, surveys, engineering checks.
- Quality assurance inspections.
- High risk tasks – writing, authorising, briefing and reviewing permit-controlled tasks e.g. excavating, lifting, confined spaces, electrical work.
- SHE observations and reporting & Contract Targeted Risk Monitoring
- Compile quality and Health & Safety File documentation throughout the project.
- Keeping diary records
- Continuously review site hazards, assess them and control them.
- Training assessments e.g. CAT & genny.
- Checking test certs for lifting equipment, machinery, harnesses etc
- Incident management - Responding to incidents in work and in vicinity
- Works readiness reviews
- COSHH assessments
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
- Notable experience delivering infrastructure projects in a site role.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Passionate about engineering and operational delivery.
Desirable
- Experience in working on a similar project is desirable but not essential.

- Civil Engineering related qualification (HNC, HND BSc, MSc, BEng, Meng)
