About The Role
J. Blanton Plumbing is seeking an experienced Excavation Field Manager to oversee our growing Sewer & Drain excavation operations. This position will be responsible for managing approximately 5 excavation crews, overseeing active jobs, coordinating equipment, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards.
We're looking for a strong field leader who understands excavation, underground utilities, sewer work, and how to keep multiple crews and projects moving. This is an opportunity to take your field experience into a leadership role with a rapidly growing company.
What You'll Do
- Manage and oversee approximately 5 excavation crews
- Coordinate daily crew assignments, job schedules, and project priorities
- Visit active jobsites to monitor progress, quality, safety, and productivity
- Ensure excavation and sewer projects are completed on schedule and according to company standards
- Coordinate equipment, trucks, materials, and resources across multiple crews
- Monitor equipment condition and ensure necessary maintenance and repairs are addressed
- Troubleshoot jobsite issues and provide solutions to keep projects moving
- Train, coach, and hold crew members accountable for performance and safety
- Work closely with project managers, operations leadership, and other departments
- Ensure crews follow OSHA and company safety procedures
- Maintain accurate job and equipment records
- Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, production, and profitability
- Assist with hiring and developing excavation team members as the department continues to grow
Requirements
- 5+ years of excavation, sewer, underground utility, or related field experience
- Previous experience leading crews or managing excavation projects
- Strong understanding of excavation, trenching, underground sewer work, and jobsite safety
- Experience managing multiple crews or projects at the same time
- Strong equipment knowledge and experience coordinating heavy equipment
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems in the field
- Ability to work outdoors and travel between jobsites
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing residential sewer or excavation projects
- Experience operating or supervising the use of excavators and other heavy equipment
- OSHA 10, OSHA 20, or OSHA 30
- Competent Person Certification
- CDL is a plus
