About The Role

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- FACILITY OPERATIONS AND SERVICE DELIVERY
- Deliver facility operations safely, reliably, efficiently and within approved budgets and service standards.
- Plan, coordinate and oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility to ensure uninterrupted and efficient service delivery.
- Translate divisional and cluster operational objectives into facility-level work plans, targets and performance standards.
- Ensure that operational processes are implemented in accordance with approved procedures, quality standards and production/service requirements.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical measures to improve productivity, efficiency and service delivery.
- IMPLEMENTATION OF STRATEGY, POLICIES AND STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES
- Implement Cluster and Divisional strategies, policies, procedures and SOPs at facility level.
- Translate approved Cluster and Divisional strategies into specific facility-level objectives, initiatives and action plans.
- Ensure that all facility activities are conducted in accordance with approved policies, procedures, SOPs and management directives.
- Monitor compliance with approved SOPs and ensure that deviations are identified, documented and promptly addressed.
- Support the development and review of facility-level procedures and work instructions where operational requirements necessitate them.
- Provide regular feedback to the Managing Director on implementation progress, operational challenges and required interventions.
- FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND COST CONTROL
- Ensure effective financial management, cost discipline and responsible utilisation of facility resources.
- Manage facility expenditure within approved budgets and delegated financial authority.
- Monitor operating costs and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary expenditure without compromising safety, quality or service delivery.
- Ensure that procurement of materials, services and operational requirements is undertaken in accordance with approved procurement procedures.
- Monitor revenue-generating activities, where applicable, and ensure that facility operations contribute to divisional financial targets.
- Ensure proper utilisation, safeguarding and accountability for facility assets, materials and other company resources.
- HEALTH, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
- Provide visible leadership in health, safety and environmental management and promote a strong safety culture across the facility.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, environmental standards, company policies and HSE procedures.
- Monitor workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments and ensure implementation of appropriate control measures.
- Ensure timely reporting, investigation and corrective action for accidents, incidents, near misses and other safety-related occurrences.
- Ensure that required permits, licences, certifications, inspections and regulatory approvals are maintained and renewed as necessary.
- Promote environmentally responsible operations, including appropriate waste handling, resource utilisation and pollution prevention practices.
- ASSET, EQUIPMENT AND TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT
- Ensure the availability, reliability, maintenance and optimal utilisation of facility assets and equipment.
- Ensure that plant, machinery, vehicles, equipment and other critical assets are properly operated, maintained and safeguarded.
- Implement and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance programmes to minimise equipment downtime.
- Coordinate with technical teams and service providers to undertake repairs, maintenance and technical interventions.
- Identify major asset replacement, rehabilitation and capital investment requirements and submit recommendations to divisional management.
- PEOPLE MANAGEMENT, LEADERSHIP AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
- Provide effective leadership and direction to all facility employees and ensure clarity of roles, responsibilities and performance expectations.
- Set performance objectives and monitor employee performance in line with the company's performance management framework.
- Identify staff training and development needs and support implementation of appropriate capacity-building programmes.
- Promote teamwork, employee engagement, accountability, discipline and a high-performance culture.
- PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT, REPORTING AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Monitor facility performance, drive continuous improvement and provide timely and accurate management information.
- Establish and monitor facility KPIs in line with approved Cluster and Divisional performance objectives.
- Analyse performance trends and identify gaps against approved targets, budgets and service standards.
- Promote process improvement, innovation, efficiency and cost optimisation across facility operations.
- STAKEHOLDER, COMMUNITY AND REGULATORY RELATIONS
- Maintain constructive relationships with communities, customers, regulators, local authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
- Represent the facility professionally in engagements with customers, communities, regulators, local authorities and other external stakeholders.
- Address stakeholder concerns promptly and escalate significant issues to the Managing Director where necessary.
- Coordinate regulatory inspections, audits and stakeholder visits and ensure that required actions are followed through.
- Promote the company's reputation and values through professional and responsible engagement with external stakeholders.
- RISK MANAGEMENT, BUSINESS CONTINUITY AND GOVERNANCE
- Identify, manage and mitigate operational and business risks affecting the facility.
- Identify operational, financial, technical, HSE, regulatory, people and reputational risks affecting facility performance.
- Escalate material risks and emerging threats to the Managing Director in a timely manner.
- Develop and implement appropriate contingency and business continuity measures for critical facility operations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Management, Engineering, Environmental Management, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
- A master’s degree in business administration, Management, Engineering, or a relevant discipline will be an added advantage.
- Relevant professional certification in management, operations, engineering, HSE or another related field will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 8–10 years' relevant professional experience, with substantial experience in operational management.
- At least 3–5 years in a managerial or supervisory leadership position.
- Experience in a processing, manufacturing, recycling, waste management, industrial or similar operational environment will be an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience in managing multidisciplinary teams, budgets, assets and operational performance.
- Experience working with regulatory authorities, communities and other external stakeholders will be an advantage.
