Guthrie Cortland Medical Center (GCMC) is searching for a compassionate & skilled Oncology Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional care in our Cancer Center at our beautiful hospital in Cortland, NY. The position is full time Monday-Friday 8a-4:30p.

Department description: The Renzi Cancer Center is a specialized outpatient oncology and hematology clinic providing comprehensive care, including infusion therapies, blood products, and supportive treatments. The unit is staffed by registered nurses that work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Summary

The Oncology Clinic RN provides professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients and is responsible for the delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, and evidence-based quality care. Practice in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics and the ANA scope and standards of practice.

Experience

A minimum of two years or practice as a registered nurse in an acute care setting is preference but not required.

Education

ASN

Associates Degree RN Required

BSN

Bachelors Degree RN Preferred

Licenses

Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education accredited nursing program. A baccalaureate Degree (BSN) is preferred but not required. BLS (basic life support), specialty certification is recommended as soon as the RN is eligible: Oncology Certified Nurse and Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certificate

Essential Functions

  • • Employs Nursing Professional Practice by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
  • • Develop updates and coordinates patient plan of care to achieve patient goals.
  • • Optimizes patient outcomes and helps patients transition across the care continuum.
  • • Support overall clinical flow through clinical decision-making and patient prioritization
  • • Performs comprehensive telephone and in-clinic triage for patients. Able to identify urgent and emergent conditions and escalate appropriately to providers. Provide evidence-based recommendations of symptom management within the scope of practice.
  • • Assist provider with clinical needs during patient visits as appropriate
  • • Serve as a clinical resource for medical assistants and support staff.
  • • Monitors, records, and communicate patient outcomes as appropriate.
  • • Performs and maintains essential competencies as required by the department. Such as administering chemotherapy, antibiotics, blood and iron infusions, and any other therapeutic treatments.
  • • Follows provider orders in relation to patient care and documents interventions.
  • • Facilitates learning environment for patients to educate them on disease processes and treatments.
  • • Educate patients on the care being provided to them and the treatment plan they are prescribed.
  • • Educate patients and families on disease process, treatment expectations, and symptom management.
  • • Coordinates with pharmacy on patient education of treatment plans if required by department.
  • • Provides patients with the education material needed to ensure health literacy.

The range for this position is $35.75-$51.11
