Job Summary
Transports patients to and from specific locations in the hospital; Also responsible for transporting laboratory specimens between patient units and the Lab that cannot be tubed. Patient Transporters are also responsible for the cleaning of all stretchers, wheelchairs, and transport equipment, as well as maintaining adequate supply of portable oxygen tank supply in all designated areas of the hospital.

C. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Demonstrates the required job specific technical/professional knowledge, skills and abilities. *
- Transports and/or escorts patients to and from Patient Units and designated departments within hospital, ensuring all patients are properly identified. The patient chart will accompany the patient on all transports. Patient transporters ensure patient safety, security, and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
- Assists in lifting and transferring patients to and from beds, stretchers, and/or wheelchairs.
- Responsible for inputting all patient transports through the Hospital AS400 system; responsible for logging patients in and out on nursing units, securing nursing unit signatures as appropriate; responsible for competing daily transport log of all transport tasks in full.
- Maintains all transport-related statistical performance data as appropriate and submits to Transport Coordinator/Lead at end of shift.
- Maintains prompt and accurate communication of all patient delays with dispatch; resolves patient delays with dispatch as appropriate.
- Picks up and transports specimens from nursing units and delivers them to the Lab, or other appropriate department. Transporter only transports specimens that cannot be tubed (as per policy).
- Pick up old charts (that cannot be tubed) from Medical Records and delivers them to nursing units.
- Transports discharge patients from patient units to lobby when volunteers are not available.
- Maintains cleanliness of all stretchers in the ER, OR, Radiology, and all transport departments properly.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Document on addendum age specific competency.

Qualifications
- High School Required or
- GED Required
- 1-2 years patient transport experience Preferred
- Ability to relate to all types of people.
- BLS - American Heart Association within 30 Days Required
