Job Description

Housekeeping Aide – Part-Time

Location: AdventHealth South Overland Park

Schedule: Part-Time |

Job Summary

Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM | Every Other Weekend

Compensation is based on experience, with trainees who have no prior experience starting at $17.50 per hour.

Responsible for performing a variety of environmental services duties to maintain assigned patient care, public, and support areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition while supporting a positive patient and visitor experience. Ensures supplies and equipment are maintained, stocked, and in proper working order. Contributes to infection prevention efforts, environmental safety, and operational efficiency through the completion of assigned cleaning, sanitation, and support activities.

Essential Functions

  • Cleans and sanitizes assigned patient rooms, public areas, offices, ancillary departments, restrooms, and other designated spaces in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Collects, removes, and properly disposes of trash, biohazardous waste, and other waste materials following established procedures.
  • Cleans and disinfects surfaces, furnishings, fixtures, and equipment using approved cleaning products and methods.
  • Responds to room turnover and bed management needs to support patient throughput and operational efficiency.
  • Utilizes Bed Management systems and handheld technology to document room status and support patient flow activities.
  • Stocks paper products, cleaning solutions, personal protective equipment, and other supplies in assigned areas as needed.
  • Collects, stages, and prepares soiled linen for pickup according to established procedures.
  • Cleans and disinfects areas contaminated by bodily fluids in accordance with infection prevention and safety standards.
  • Operates cleaning equipment, carts, and related environmental services tools safely and effectively.
  • Maintains cleaning equipment and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection prevention practices, isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning procedures.
  • Documents completed work and assigned activities accurately and timely.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of environmental services principles, practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer skills, including keyboard and mouse operation.
  • Ability to operate computers and standard software applications used within the department.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, visitors, and team members.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS), product labels, reports, and departmental documentation.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned tasks independently.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention practices, isolation procedures, and environmental cleaning standards.
  • Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals, equipment, waste materials, and supplies.
  • Ability to organize work effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Environmental services experience within a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of additional languages preferred.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Previous housekeeping, custodial, environmental services, or related experience preferred.

Additional Information

  • Compensation is based on experience, with candidates who have no prior experience eligible to start at $17.50 per hour .
  • Schedule is 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with every other weekend required .

Pay Range

  • $15.96 - $25.54
