About The Role

Summary

The Epic Willow Inpatient Application Analyst I formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding combined with an understanding of the applications used by the health system. Defines end-user requirements, procedures prior to the implementation of their application areas. Confers with other departments to analyze and document current operational procedures. Identify problems and learn specific input and output requirements such as forms of data input, how data are to be summarized, and formats for reports. Prepares workflow charts and diagrams to specify operations to be performed by equipment, computer programs, as well as operations to be performed by personnel in using the system. Recommend alternative procedures for improvement of workflow, either manual or automated. Understand the operational and functional areas in the organization and can communicate effectively with clinicians in these areas. Required to make formal presentations and submit written reports for review purposes. Plans and prepares non-technical reports, memoranda, and instructional manuals as documentation of program usage. May prepare time and cost estimates for completing projects. May direct and coordinate work of others to develop, test, install, and modify programs. Promotes a positive and professional image of the Information Services & Technology Department and of Cape Fear Valley Health System. MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Acts as primary support contact for the application’s end-users.
  • Develops an operational need to set the direction of the organization’s workflows. Workflow discovery includes site visits, validation sessions, and other integrated systems.
  • Works closely with different divisional/functional heads within the organization to determine their information needs and problems.
  • Identifies issues that arise in their application area as well as issues that impact other application teams and works collaboratively to resolve them.
  • Guides workflow design, building and testing the system, an analyzing other technical issue associated with Epic software.
  • Identifies and implements requested changes that are approved by the appropriate governance in the system.
  • Leads small to medium projects requiring clinical systems involvement. Maintains regular communication with Epic representatives.
  • Participates in team and department meetings.
  • Prepares general system flowcharts for present and proposed systems that portray the movement of work through the organizational elements.
  • Confers with management and advises them of the status and progress of studies being conducted.
  • Maintains documentation of assigned projects and/or systems.
  • Provides pertinent documents and any other related information to team members.
  • Demonstrate the ability to comprehend, evaluate, and make decisions.
  • Provide assistance and training to end-user staff for Epic Willow Schedules meetings as needed to ensure that goals are being met and issues are identified and resolved.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum require­ments necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree or higher in health profession field with current professional licensure or certification (pharmacist/pharmacy technician preferred). Associate degree in information technology in healthcare or work experience in lieu of formal education will be considered.
  • Epic Certification preferred

Work Experience

  • 3 year's work history demonstrating knowledge in system analysis of business applications or a related field involving organization and procedures analysis required
  • 1 year healthcare experience required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
  • Excellent analysis and testing skills including data gathering, problem solving, and test plan creation and execution
  • Experience using structured methodologies for the design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of applications
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple activities of varying complexity while under time constraints
  • Familiarity with change control methods and experience setting priorities and communicating change impacts with diverse users
  • Customer service focus and ability to manage expectations with the attitude of recommending solutions rather than presenting problems
  • Exceptional problem solving, communication, documentation and presentation/ facilitation skills, with strong detail orientation, and above average interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships within IT and with business partners
  • Excellent organizational, decision-making, negotiating, and analytical skills with the ability to influence outcomes
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to formulate and define system scope and objectives based on both user needs and a good understanding of clinical and/or business requirements to support the strategic vision and goals of the health system
  • Ability to work with user staff to complete build of applications and ensure end-users are properly trained using a Train the Trainer methodology
  • Ability to apply standard and nonstandard technology applications as well as explore and adapt to changing technologies
  • Ability to monitor and track highly detailed and moderately complex projects, systems, and data analysis
  • Proactively recognizes needs, anticipate outcomes and consequences of different approaches and makes necessary modifications to plans to achieve desired outcome
  • Independently learns appropriate techniques to apply and adapt new ideas in related, different or changing situations
  • Aware of current information technology; ability to apply this knowledge to meet operational needs
  • Ability to develop functional working knowledge of systems and to integrate this knowledge to achieve innovative solutions
  • Independently plans and manages projects, including resources, staff, goals
  • Effectively handles and completes assignments, including overseeing completion of assignments of others

Physical Requirements

  • Hearing and verbal ability to interact professionally with staff, managers and vendors
  • Visual acuity to deal with computerized displays and printouts
  • Manual dexterity to use standard keyboard
  • Ability to respond to remote locations
