Accountabilities

The Sr. Project Accountant will oversee the financial management of large-scale construction projects, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and alignment between financial performance and operational goals.

  • Lead financial oversight for a portfolio of complex construction projects, serving as a trusted financial advisor to project managers and operational leaders.
  • Establish and maintain project budgets within financial systems, ensuring accuracy and alignment with contractual requirements.
  • Manage project billing processes, including preparation, review, posting, tracking, client reviews, and collection support.
  • Maintain project-specific rate tables and ensure financial processes comply with contract terms.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance requirements, including insurance documentation, lien waivers, and payment requirements.
  • Manage subcontractor payment processes and address inquiries or financial discrepancies.
  • Review, approve, and code invoices while processing cost reallocations and resolving vendor payment issues.
  • Analyze monthly cost-to-complete reports, explain gross profit fluctuations, and identify financial risks and opportunities.
  • Support revenue projections, work-in-process reporting, and risk and opportunity analysis to improve project forecasting.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing documentation and financial information.
  • Participate in project meetings, including project launches, financial reviews, and closeout discussions.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior accounting team members when needed.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong project accounting experience and a solid understanding of construction financial processes. This role requires analytical ability, strong communication skills, and the confidence to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.

  • 5+ years of experience in project accounting, including experience with billing, cost forecasting, subcontractor compliance, and revenue recognition.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in the construction industry, particularly with general contractors or subcontractors, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AIA billing processes and construction project financial management.
  • Experience with CMiC and Textura platforms preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of project budgets, cost controls, financial reporting, and forecasting processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify financial trends and risks.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with internal teams, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Ability to work from the Miami office three days per week, with flexibility to work remotely two days per week.
