Accountabilities

The Engineering Manager, EC Card will lead a team of engineers responsible for developing and scaling a new financial product platform. This role requires strong technical judgment, people leadership, and the ability to balance product goals with long-term engineering excellence.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, supporting technical growth, career development, and a high-performing team culture.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Risk, and Engineering stakeholders to define roadmap priorities and deliver impactful product solutions.
  • Guide the development of scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems that support a seamless member experience.
  • Collaborate with senior technical leaders on architecture decisions, engineering standards, and technical debt prioritization.
  • Balance short-term delivery goals with long-term platform health and sustainability.
  • Create clarity around priorities, trade-offs, business context, and technical decisions to help the team execute effectively.
  • Remove technical and operational blockers to improve team productivity and delivery speed.
  • Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and code reviews while maintaining a strong understanding of owned systems.
  • Partner with engineering peers to coordinate launches, experiments, and shared platform initiatives.
  • Use data, reliability metrics, and operational insights to guide engineering decisions and improve product performance.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment where engineers can do their best work and continue developing their skills.

Requirements

The ideal candidate combines engineering leadership experience with strong technical expertise and a passion for building scalable products in a fast-paced environment. They should be comfortable navigating ambiguity, making strategic technical decisions, and collaborating across multiple teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of software development experience.
  • 1.5+ years of engineering management experience leading software engineering teams.
  • Experience building highly available, scalable, and low-latency systems.
  • Strong technical judgment with the ability to guide architecture discussions and complex engineering decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience hiring, mentoring, and building inclusive, high-performing engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a high-growth startup or rapidly evolving technology environment.
  • Experience with fintech, payments, lending, or financial technology products is a plus.
  • Familiarity with modern technologies such as TypeScript, Node.js, MySQL, Google Cloud Platform, React Native, React, GraphQL, Docker, or Kubernetes is preferred.
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to balance speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
