About The Role

High School at The University of Memphis seeks to fill a Interventionist position for grades 9th – 11th. The High School Interventionist (ELA & Math) provides targeted academic support to students in grades 9–12 who require additional assistance in English Language Arts and/or Mathematics. The interventionist works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and support staff to design and implement research-based interventions that accelerate student learning and close achievement gaps. This role focuses on using data to identify student needs, deliver small group and individualized instruction, monitor progress, and adjust supports to ensure students meet grade-level standards and graduation requirements. The interventionist plays a critical role in promoting student confidence, skill mastery, and academic persistence. High School has been designated an "A" rated school by the Tennessee Department of Education. This is a 10 month faculty position at the University of Memphis with full benefits. Instruction and Curriculum Provide targeted, research-based intervention in English Language Arts and Mathematics aligned to grade-level standards. Deliver small group and individualized instruction to support skill development and content mastery. Collaborate with classroom teachers to align interventions with core instruction and support differentiated learning. Use formative and summative assessment data to identify student needs and adjust instructional strategies. Develop and implement intervention plans, including goal setting and progress monitoring for assigned students. Support students in building foundational skills, study habits, and academic confidence. Assist with the implementation of school-wide intervention systems, including RTI/MTSS frameworks. Monitor and document student progress and communicate outcomes with stakeholders. Requires the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and other applicable regulations. May require occasional work outside of standard school hours for tutoring sessions, family meetings, or academic support programs. Requires consistent interaction with students performing below grade level or at risk of academic failure. Must be able to effectively manage multiple student groups and instructional priorities in a fast-paced school environment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of evidence-based intervention strategies in literacy and mathematics. Ability to analyze student performance data and design targeted instructional responses. Ability to provide differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs. Skill in progress monitoring, data tracking, and instructional adjustment. Ability to build positive relationships with students to support engagement and motivation. Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, faculty, and administrators. Ability to collaborate within a team to support student achievement and intervention goals. Strong classroom management and small group facilitation skills.

Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Mathematics, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Valid Tennessee teaching license with appropriate endorsement (ELA, Math, or related area) required. Valid Tennessee teaching license Special Education Interventionist K-8 (144) or Special Education Interventionist 6-12 (145). Experience working with high school students in an instructional or intervention setting preferred. Successful candidates will have: Demonstrated knowledge of literacy and/or math intervention strategies and progress monitoring tools. Experience using student data to inform instruction and intervention planning. Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with teachers, administrators, and support staff. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to supporting diverse learners and closing achievement gaps.
