BASIC QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED equivalent Possess and maintain Alabama Interpreter License or Renewable Permit upon employment. Must have at least three (3) months of formal work experience interpreting for the Deaf/DeafBlind. Must have proven experience in utilizing a full range of communication and language levels including the use of sign, spoken language, and any additional modes of communication. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of federal and state laws related to interpreting. Must know and adhere to the RID Interpreter Code of Professional Conduct. Must possess skills in using Google Suite. Valid driver’s license, an automobile for use on the job, and liability insurance in effect. Must possess a minimum entry sign language proficiency level of ADVANCED according to the AIDB evaluation system (SLPI/SCPI) upon hire. Must meet suitability/background requirements for employment PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree One (1) year or more of formal work experience interpreting for the Deaf/DeafBlind. One (1) year or more of community interpreting experience. RID National Interpreter Certification POSITION REQUIREMENTS Possess a minimum entry sign language proficiency level of ADVANCED according to AIDB evaluation system (SLPI/SCPI); and ADVANCED PLUS must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment. Must obtain and maintain an Alabama Interpreting License within 36 months of employment. Provide interpreting services and assist the Director of Interpreting as needed. Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards of practice. Must be willing to travel on a daily basis. Extensive travel, including occasional overnight travel is required. Willing and able to work flexible schedules to include holidays, nights, and weekends. Assist in planning and participate in AIDB activities, i.e., White Cane, Deaf Awareness, educational workshops, social/community events, graduation, in-service week, summer camps, and/or statewide programs. Prioritize assigned location/campus interpreting needs while also assisting with other interpreting needs across AIDB. Work with other Deaf professionals to provide interpretation for agency workshops and events. Enter current consumer information into a database as needed for consumer demographics. Communicate effectively with supervisor and other professionals. Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards of practice outlined in the RID Code of Professional Conduct. Provide training/workshops related to working with interpreters within the local service area. Complete all yearly AIDB internal training modules. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Interpreting Services. Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB. SALARY: $23.05- $35.80 Scale PI Rank PI Renewable Permit $25.50- $40.80 Scale PI Rank LI Licensed Alabama Interpreter $30.60- $45.90 Scale PI Rank MI Master’s in Interpreting This position is eligible for the following annual incentives. Specialization Incentive Pay RID recognized certification $5,000 Mental-Health-Q $2,500 Legal (SC: L), other $2,500 260 Days; Direct deposit is required; bi-weekly payroll The work schedule is based on 8 hours each day with a total of 40 hours each work week. This is not an exempt position, and is subject to overtime of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
