POSITION REQUIREMENTS Basic Qualifications Must possess a High School diploma or General Equivalency diploma. Must hold current valid Alabama CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement. Must maintain Department of Transportation -OR- Alabama School Bus Driver Physical certification. Must be insurable under AIDB’s fleet policy. Preferred Qualifications One (1) year of experience working with individuals with sensory impairment. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Student Instruction & Training Safe Transportation: Provide safe and timely transportation for AIDB’s students or clients. Consumer Safety: Never leave a consumer unattended at his/her stop without permission. Crisis Management: Remain calm and handle emergency situations as they arise. Must pass Managing Crisis Safely (MCS) Class within the first twelve (12) months of employment and maintain certification throughout employment of this position. Administration & Observation Inspection & Upkeep: Perform acceptable pre- and post-trip inspections, report any problems, and maintain responsibility for the cleanliness of the bus interior. Logistics & Scheduling: Keep the bus on a regular schedule. Department Paperwork: Complete and turn in all paperwork required by the AIDB transportation department and Regional Director. Time Tracking: Keep an accurate and truthful time sheet for payroll purposes. Communication Systems: Communicate efficiently on a two (2) way radio and/or cellular phone. Outreach & Development Regulatory Compliance: Abide by all federal, state, local, and AIDB rules, regulations, laws, and policies. Federal Clearinghouse Registration: Must register with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearing House upon employment and comply with all of its requirements during tenure. Professional Development and Certifications Crisis Management: Must pass Managing Crisis Safely (MCS) Class within the first twelve (12) months of employment and maintain certification throughout employment of this position. Sign Language Proficiency: A sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment. SURVIVAL PLUS must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment. Specialized Mobility Training: Must attend wheelchair lift and securement training within six (6) months of employment. First Aid Credentials: Must complete CPR/First Aid within the first eighteen (18) months of employment and must maintain certification throughout employment of this position. Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.
