POSITION Food Service Manager WORK LOCATION AIDB North, Cafeteria ABOUT ALABAMA INSTITUTE FOR DEAF AND BLIND The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world’s most comprehensive education, rehabilitation and service program serving individuals of all ages who are deaf, blind, deafblind and multi-disabled and their families. Founded in 1858, AIDB serves more than 36,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults and seniors with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama each year. Our services literally span a lifetime including five campuses in Talladega, ten regional centers located in Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Talladega, Tuscaloosa ,Shoals, Opelika and Decatur with programs that range from early and senior intervention, traditional and nontraditional education services in residential and outreach settings and a manufacturing facility that is the state’s largest employer of adults who are blind and deaf ABOUT THE ROLE Our employees are our most valuable resource. The Food Service Manager at the AIDB North cafeteria is responsible for providing leadership within the department daily. You will also be responsible for the training and development of all staff as well as over seeing daily operations. You will be working directly with the Nutrition Program Director to develop and maintain the cafetria’s budget. At AIDB, we are limitless and so are the possibilities for your professional growth and fulfillment. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 2 years of successful supervisory experience in quantity food preparation, cooking, and service activities in a large commercial or institutional kitchen within the last 10 years. Must be Servsafe Certified or become certified within 3 months of employment. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word) Must have a valid Alabama Drivers License. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Ability to supervise the work of others. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, subordinates and all other persons. Must have the ability to train new employees and coach seasoned employees. Must posses good comprehension skills and show the ability to utilize/develop/adapt: recipes, special directions, menus, and any other pertinent information related to the job. Must have the ability to develop work schedules, complete reports, maintain records, and process orders for food, supplies, etc. on time. Must organize, plan, and work (as needed) all aspects of the food service operation for schedule camps and events that take place during the 260 day work schedule. Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, students, and administration. Must posses knowledge of kitchen equipment use and maintenance Must attend required training and in-services. Travel maybe required. Must maintain and complete production records, inventory reports, time cards, and all necessary paperwork required. Perform other duties as assigned by the AIDB Nutrition Program Director. A sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system must by obtained within the first thirty –six (36) months of employment Must be willing and able to a work flexible schedule to include holidays, nights, and weekends Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB .
