About The Role

Please note: this is a temporary assignment (5 months). The Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND) at UCSF is looking for a Staff Research Associate (SRA) to join the High Throughput Screening (HTS) group. In this role, you will be part of the HTS group, charged with screening novel chemical libraries and biologicals using cell-based high content imaging (HCI) assays, to identify candidate small molecule therapeutics for treating diverse neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease. The primary responsibilities of this position are to execute end-point imaging assays, conduct quantitative analyses and generate consumable data. This position includes hands-on lab work, especially operating and maintaining automation, high-content imaging of cells, analyses and uploading imaging data, cell culture, and helping the team with running cell-based and biochemical drug screening assays. Additionally, the candidate will be required to perform appropriate experimental planning, data analysis, documentation of results and supply management required to complete all aspects of the experimental work.

SRA 1: B.S. in Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related science Mammalian cell culture experience Hands on molecular biology experience Western blot analysis Excellent oral and written communication skills Organized Excellent record keeping skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team Enthusiasm, positive outlook and scientific curiosity. SRA 2: In addition to the above, Minimum 1 year experience in a research laboratory environment following degree completion Preferred Qualifications M.S. in Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related science BSL 2/3 approved (Bio Secure Lab) Experience with high content imaging and image analysis Experience with robotic liquid handling equipment Some knowledge of neurodegenerative disease research 3 years experience in a research laboratory environment following degree completion
