About The Role
The UCSF School of Dentistry is actively recruiting an Associate Prosthodontist for our UCSF Dentistry San Mateo Place Park Practice, a high-volume, multi-specialty dental clinic located in the city of San Mateo. This flagship practice is designed with a strong emphasis on technology, integrated care, and an exceptional patient experience. As Prosthodontist, the associate prosthodontist will work under the general direction of the UCSF San Mateo Park Dentistry clinic director and will provide direct patient care with a focus on complex restorative and prosthodontic treatments. They will diagnose and treat oral diseases, and functional conditions requiring prosthodontic intervention; will consult and collaborate with other dental and medical providers to deliver interdisciplinary care and will participate in advancing digital dentistry and technology-enhanced treatment modalities.
% of time Essential Function (Yes/No ) Key Responsibilities (To be completed by Supervisor) 80 Patient Care Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines. Reviews patients’ medical history and discusses their symptoms and concerns. Utilizes dental instruments and x-ray equipment to determine the cause of patients’ oral pain and discomfort. Formulates suitable treatment plans based on the diagnosed dental condition. Takes measurements for prostheses like dentures, crowns, and bridges ; Employs a digital workflow with familiarity in analog modalities. Sends files and/or models to lab companies that manufacture prostheses; Places prostheses in patients’ mouths, making adjustments to make them fit properly ; Ability to assess, diagnosis and treat all aspects of restorative dentistry including removable, fixed, and implant dentistry. Repairs, rebases, and relines dentures; Administers anesthesia, and prescribes medications like antibiotics; Conducts surgery to repair structures of the mouth to enable those who have suffered injuries or diseases to regain functions; Employs bonding methods to alter the shape of teeth and close gaps between them, to improve function or appearance; Treats ailments that cause pain in the face and jaw; Uses veneers to hide tooth defects, and bleaches teeth to make them whiter; Completes a comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and progress notes on each patient. Educates patients about on-going care and explaining proper oral hygiene methods for good oral health. Provides referrals to other professionals, such as oral surgeons, when needed 20 Clinical Operations Supports an environment that encourages creativity, efficiency, engagement, quality of care, safety, and innovations in operations. Handles and resolves patient complaints, reviews patient records to assess quality of care. Promotes a workplace culture with a focus on meeting or exceeding patient service standards. Assists in implementing quality improvement systems. Required Qualifications: Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD) degree or a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Completion of a post-doctoral residency program in prosthodontics. Proven experience working as a prosthodontist Superb dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Outstanding patient management skills. Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making. Strong clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology. Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services. Commitment to using an antiracist/anti-oppressive framework and lens to patient care, education, teaching, and advocacy. Required Licenses and/or Certifications: Completion of a CODA-accredited training program in Prosthodontics Must be eligible for licensure or special permit in the State of California Preferred Qualifications: Certification through the American Board of Prosthodontics is preferred Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes. Familiar with processes for medical records, Epic, Axium and billing Skills in complex esthetic and reconstructive dentistry Strong interpersonal skills to work with patients and colleagues
