About The Role

About Company Raksul is a Japanese B2B e-commerce company that uses the internet to modernize traditional industries like printing, logistics, and advertising by creating efficient digital platforms, aiming to build "BETTER SYSTEMS, BETTER WORLD" through structural transformation and connecting customers with underutilized business resources. Originally a printing marketplace, it has expanded into a multi-faceted service ecosystem for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Japan, offering services from custom merchandise to TV advertising and logistics, all under a unified ID. Background Raksul is expanding rapidly its business through new business launches, M&A, and global teams, while our core revenue platforms run on AWS, with a mix of legacy EC2-based systems and newer containerized services. Infrastructure decisions made today must remain valid as: 1. engineering organization grows from ~200 to ~400+ engineers globally, 2. teams become increasingly global and autonomous, and 3. platform complexity continues to increase. Mission This is a player/coach role: approximately 60% hands-on technical execution and 40% strategy, stakeholder alignment, and people leadership (ratio may flex by quarter). You will lead the strategy, launch, and management of the cloud infrastructure, while also being hands-on in critical technical initiatives. A key near-term mission is to drive the transition of Infra Ops from a partner company and build and manage a distributed team across India and Japan to support that effort. You will work closely with multiple business units and product development teams to define the optimal infrastructure and development environment for the group, translate that into a technical roadmap, and guide the team to execute in a tangible and impactful way. Key responsibilities A) Hands-on technical leadership (≈60%) Be hands-on in architecture and critical-path implementation for AWS, Terraform/IaC, CI/CD, observability/monitoring, and reliability improvements. Lead technical design reviews and drive pragmatic engineering decisions that improve stability, delivery speed, and developer experience. Drive the phased migration of AWS- and Terraform-managed infrastructure from group company ownership to internal control (plan and execute key phases). Lead incident response/escalations when needed, establish runbooks, and improve operational excellence (including SLO/SLA thinking where applicable). Manage infrastructure-related tool costs effectively (FinOps mindset), continuously identifying opportunities to optimize spend and simplify operations. B) Strategy + team management (≈40%) - Define the multi-quarter infrastructure roadmap aligned with business unit and product needs; translate initiatives into clear, tangible steps. - Hire, grow, and manage a distributed team across India and Japan; set clear goals, manage performance, and provide regular coaching and feedback. - Improve team dynamics and productivity by fostering a culture of high achievement, accountability, and continuous improvement. - Operate the transition governance model, including the RACI, timelines, and review workflow; coordinate with internal stakeholders and group company engineers across geographies. - Establish an operating rhythm for planning, execution, and communication (milestones, progress reviews, stakeholder updates). What Makes This Role Attractive Opportunity to define and build the core infrastructure team from the ground up. Strategic ownership of a multi-year transition and modernization initiative. High autonomy, strong executive backing, and collaboration with top-tier technical leadership. A fast-paced, international work environment with hybrid and remote flexibility. Required Qualifications Experiences 8+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, software engineering, or SRE. 3+ years of hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure domains. 3+ years of experience managing engineering team members across multiple countries. Proven track record of leading cross-functional or cross-regional technical initiatives (while remaining hands-on on critical paths). Technical Knowledge - Strong knowledge of AWS, Terraform, CI/CD, monitoring, and developer platform tooling. Communication & Management Skills - Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills in English and Japanese. - Cross-organizational change management skills. Mindset & Adaptability - Comfortable operating as a player/coach: switching between deep technical problem-solving and people/stakeholder leadership in the same week. - Comfortable with ambiguity and iterative execution. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in M&A-driven environments or scaling infrastructure in multi-product companies. Familiarity with GitOps, Datadog, ECS/EKS, or self-service infrastructure models. Prior experience leading organizational transformation or platform adoption.
