Coordinates and delivers college and career readiness grade appropriate workshops, programming, and events that support college, career and postsecondary success. Supports campus work in course advising and TSI readiness.
Specialist 2 CCMR Advisor - Responsibilities body { font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; color: #333; margin: 16px; } .section-label { font-weight: bold; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 16px; } ol { margin-top: 0; padding-left: 24px; } li { margin-bottom: 4px; line-height: 1.5; } Responsibilities Provide comprehensive advising and college and career readiness grade-level programming to students to develop and increase preparedness for post-secondary education and workforce training Build, support, and strengthen a campus culture that promotes college and career degree and certificate programs Operate an inclusive college and career center for students and families Support campus efforts in promoting TSI readiness Ensure that students and their parents can effectively utilize available resources, including online college and career exploration platforms and PSAT and SAT preparation tools to meet Texas Success Initiative college ready benchmarks Support, promote, and assist with community and district-wide college and career events Plan and supervise campus and off-campus college and industry experiences Assist students and families through various application processes for academic, enrichment, college, career, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities Utilize department platforms for managing and tracking student and advising program information Analyze weekly College and Career Readiness campus benchmarks to develop, drive, and evaluate advising supports, initiatives and outcomes. Additionally, will work collectively with campus and district staff along with community college access organizations to meet district and campus goals Attend Professional development to develop industry awareness and stay abreast of changes in careers and college admission requirements Other duties as assigned.
Specialist 2 CCMR Advisor - Skills body { font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; color: #333; margin: 16px; } .section-label { font-weight: bold; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 16px; } p { margin: 4px 0 10px 0; } Job Qualifications EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree WORK EXPERIENCE 1-3 years of advising experience preferred TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION Software Microsoft Office Certifications/Licensure Equipment Other Items Strong familiarity with college and financial aid processes Bilingual (Spanish, Vietnamese or other) highly valued Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to relate one-on-one and in groups with confidence and poise Ability to provide critical and constructive feedback to effect immediate change Highly analytical, able to interpret data and weigh multiple options Strong communicator, ability to write clearly and analytically A problem solver, able to prioritize multiple scenarios Ability to model research-based college advising strategies Self-starter, flexible, able to adapt and adjust quickly to changing situations and needs LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES -No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff. WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT -Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an “as needed” basis. BUDGET AUTHORITY -No budget development activity is required. PROBLEM SOLVING -Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas. IMPACT OF DECISIONS -Follows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction. COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS -Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and co-workers in own and other departments. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS -Follows through with customer inquiries, requests, and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution. WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS -Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
