HVDC System Design - Insulation Coordination

About The Role
- You will perform comprehensive insulation coordination studies for HVDC systems, including AC and DC overhead lines, cables, converter stations, and associated equipment also develop and implement strategies for optimizing insulation levels, considering various overvoltage phenomena such as lightning, switching, and temporary over voltages.
- You will utilize specialized software tools (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP-RV, ATP-EMTP) for transient analysis and surge arrester selection and positioning also collaborate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., power systems, mechanical, civil) to ensure a holistic and integrated system design.
- You will define technical specifications for HVDC equipment related to insulation withstand capabilities and participate in design reviews, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and site acceptance tests (SAT) to verify insulation performance.
- You will contribute to the development of internal standards, guidelines, and best practices for insulation coordination in HVDC applications and conduct technical investigations into insulation-related issues and propose effective solutions.
- You will stay abreast of the latest industry standards, research, and technological advancements in HVDC insulation coordination and prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- You will be responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

- You hold a Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field with a strong focus on high voltage engineering.
- Required with minimum of 5-8 years of experience in HVDC system design, with a significant emphasis on insulation coordination.
- Proven expertise in performing transient overvoltage studies using industry-standard simulation tools (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP-RV, ATP-EMTP).
- In-depth knowledge of international standards and guidelines related to HVDC insulation coordination (e.g., IEC, CIGRE), strong understanding of high voltage dielectric phenomena, surge arrester characteristics, and insulation materials.
- Familiarity with the design and operation of key HVDC components such as converter valves, transformers, and switchgear, also with an ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, willingness to travel internationally for project meetings, factory visits, and site support as required.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Japanese language skills are a plus.
