The outpatient oncology social worker plays a vital role in supporting patients and their families throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Social workers in our Cancer Center provide assessments, emotional support, counseling, education, and facilitate support groups/programs to help patients cope with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. The licensed clinical social worker collaborates with a multidisciplinary team working to exceed patient expectations. Additionally, they assist with resource coordination, including housing, transportation, insurance, and access to community services, while advocating for the patient's overall well-being and quality of life. As a member of the outpatient social work team, you will have access to a strong team of clinical social workers, committee and special project opportunities, serve as a preceptor in our internship and fellowship program, and work towards obtaining academic rank. To be considered for this position, you must have a master’s degree in social work and two years' supervised therapy experience in behavioral health and/or medical social work including diagnostic assessment, individual, group, and family therapy. Licensure / Certifications Licensure to practice independently at the clinical level as required by applicable state requirements (LCSW, LICSW). Additional Qualifications Clinical oncology experience is preferred. Advanced knowledge of mental illness, personality development, knowledge of the types of treatment, and skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy. Knowledge of adjustment to medical diagnoses and chronic disease. Strong communication skills are needed to interact with patients, patient's family members, multi- disciplinary team, community agencies, and other resources. Must have psychosocial diagnostic skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and in written form.
