Referral Coordinator (UTHP Med Pulmonary Gateway)

Under direct supervision, responsible for assisting with coordination of referrals, authorization, scheduling of patients and record keeping.

Triage's patient inquiry and physician referral calls to coordinate intake of new patients; completes new patient pre-registration and scheduling. Completes clinical assessment based on a phone interview with patient, family members or patient's physician; provides educational information. Obtains patient records and full demographic data; enters the information into the computer for pre-registration. Updates and relays information to patients or physicians about clinical activity. Maintains the schedule for residents and faculty. Assembles records for chart audit. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system while providing excellent service. Strong organizational and attention to detail skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with patients, employees and the public. Ability to maintain strictest confidentiality and adherence to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations. EDUCATION: Associate's Degree degree in health related field is required. EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years experience in patient care setting is required. This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
