After School STEAM Teacher Start Date: Thursday, September 24, 2026 Pay Rate: $40 – $60 per hour, commensurate with experience Schedule: Full school year: September 2026 – June 2027, adhering to the Bank Street calendar Day: Thursdays, 3:15 PM – 4:30 PM (teaching time 3:30 PM – 4:15 PM, plus set-up and clean-up) Part-time, hourly position, with opportunities for occasional substitute work About Bank Street School for Children A leader in progressive education for more than 100 years, the Bank Street School for Children provides students, from nursery through 8th grade, an education that engages their natural curiosity, nurtures critical thinking, and helps to develop a sense of community and social responsibility. About the Position The After School STEAM Teacher leads an after school course that supports a growing understanding of integrated STEAM concepts through project-based work. Under the supervision of the After School Director and the Auxiliary Programs team, the STEAM Teacher designs and implements age-appropriate curricula for two groups of 10–12 students in Bank Street’s STEAM Lab. This role is well suited to an educator who is excited by hands-on, interdisciplinary learning and who can make science, technology, engineering, art, and math accessible to young children. Key Responsibilities Curriculum and Instruction In collaboration with the After School Director, design and document age-appropriate STEAM curricula for students ages 5–7 and 7–9 Lead project-based work that builds an integrated understanding of STEAM concepts Build relationships with students so they treat each other well and stay on task Classroom Community and Management Participate as a member of a collaborative, cooperative After School program, sharing information and strategies to sustain a healthy classroom community Use classroom management skills to run and support an energetic classroom of children while maintaining and reinforcing health and safety rules Safety, Materials, and Dismissal Prepare materials and maintain the STEAM Lab space before and after each session Support students in moving safely through the hallways and in and out of the building, following building-wide health and safety regulations Oversee the safe transfer of children to after school programming and dismissal to authorized adults Qualifications Required High school diploma Background in one or more STEAM disciplines and the ability to teach them in an integrated, project-based way Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team, as well as develop skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the whole class Curiosity about and commitment to learning more about Bank Street’s approach to this type of learning Preferred Bachelor’s degree Experience teaching STEAM courses to the age groups indicated Experience managing a classroom and teaching children (experience working with young children a plus) Experience with progressive education Prior experience working as part of the Bank Street community
