About The Role

Job Summary

Our firm is looking for a creative, talented interior designer to design beautiful, functional spaces for commercial and residential clients. The ideal candidate for our interior designer position is a team player who is effective at collaborating with colleagues and partners but is also self-motivated and able to complete work to deadlines with minimal supervision. A visual portfolio of past projects is a definite plus for the interior designer candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Find opportunities for new projects and bid on potential jobs
  • Work closely with the client to determine his or her goals and requirements for the project
  • Study the space (or the blueprints and plans for the space) to consider use and flow of people through and within the space
  • Collaborate with architects, builders, mechanical and structural engineers, and other members of the project team to create and implement a design plan
  • Create preliminary design schemes, either by hand-sketching or computer-aided design (CAD)
  • Delineate project specifications including materials and furnishings to be used, such as flooring, furniture, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and wall finishes
  • Ensure that interior design plans comply with building codes and inspection regulations
  • Finalize plans using CAD applications to varying degrees of detail as required by the project, including design plans, floor plans, electrical layouts, and information needed for building permits
  • Develop a project timeline and estimates for project costs
  • Obtain client approval for interior design plan and cost estimate
  • Place orders for all supplies and materials
  • Oversee installation of the design elements
  • Debrief with client after project completion to ensure that goals were met and the project was done to the customer’s satisfaction

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Superior artistic and creative ability
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and an aptitude for visualization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate a vision to non-design-oriented people
  • Passing score on state-approved interior design exam is required; comparable work experience in the interior design field may suffice
  • National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam
  • California Council for Interior Design Qualification (CCIDQ) exam
  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture, or related field strongly preferred
  • Certification in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) preferred
  • A proven history of sustainable interior design work is a plus
  • Certification in an interior design specialty—such as lighting design, universal design, or kitchen and bath design—is preferred, but not required
  • Portfolio showcasing specialized design services is a plus
