About The Role

Stevens Institute of Technology seeks a Senior Director of Residence Life to oversee the Office of Residence Life within Student Affairs. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, the Senior Director provides leadership and vision for residential programs and services that support students living in university-owned housing, both on-and off-campus and dining.

Under the leadership and guidance of the Senior Director, the Office of Residence Life provides a broad range of student development functions to create safe, supportive, and inclusive living learning environments that engage students in furthering their academic success, personal growth, leadership development, and commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.

The Senior Director of Residence Life is responsible for setting a vision, for strategic planning, and for the design and implementation of a comprehensive residence life and dining program which includes offering intentional living-learning environments for residential students at Stevens. The Senior Director is also responsible for staff supervision, community development, student conduct, leadership development, selection and ongoing training of resident assistants, programming, faculty recruitment and engagement in residence life, budget oversight, staff development, establishment of structures, policies, and basic operations for the department, assessment, managing Stevens Dining, liaising with dining vendor/consultant, and the development of ongoing partnerships with students, faculty, colleagues, and families to achieve the goals of Residence Life.

Responsibilities Include

  • Develop the vision and future direction for the Office of Residence Life
  • Facilitate and lead the dissemination, and implementation of the office mission, goals, values, objectives, policies, procedures, budget, and programs from a student development lens
  • Engage a diverse student body and staff in fostering a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment that promotes connection to campus life
  • Oversee the hiring, training, evaluation, and discipline of all staff members.
  • Provide direct supervision for professional staff members; coordinate staff selection, training, and evaluation processes annually
  • Manage the Stevens dining program, inclusive of meal plans and catering; serve as the formal liaison with the Stevens Dining vendor
  • Manage and provide strategic direction for summer conferences and rentals and the summer college intern program with a goal of producing significant revenue during the summer months; partner with the Office of University Events as appropriate
  • Lead strategic planning process and implementation for Residence Life and Dining including the development of a residential curriculum and living-learning community program
  • Participate in renovation and construction planning and implementation processes for residential facilities
  • Work closely with campus departments to ensure the best possible residential student experience
  • Integrate Residence Life programming and protocols with faculty, Student Affairs colleagues, campus police, and Facilities and Operations team members
  • Implement educational offerings, programs, and policies to encourage a safe, healthy, and positive student experience
  • Respond to crisis and critical incidents as needed; serve on a 24/7 crisis response rotation
  • Supervise staff in responding to misconduct and crisis; assist with administration of the student conduct process
  • Develop a residential student advisory board to allow for student involvement in governance and enhancement of the residential experience
  • Develop and manage the housing selection process, including room changes and housing inventory
  • Work closely with Facilites team to ensure the ongoing the maintenance of residential facilities
  • Conduct assessment, analyze data, create reports, and present to campus constituencies on departmental and other student development issues
  • Oversee departmental budget and monitor spending for all staff members in Residence Life
  • Provide oversight and direction for the office’s website and communications to students, staff, faculty and parents
  • Monitor current trends in residence life to determine potential application or impact to the office
  • Participate in and support campus-wide activities, programs, and traditions at Stevens
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

  • A minimum of ten years of experience in a college or university residence life area is required
  • A minimum of five years supervising full-time residence life staff
  • A master’s degree in higher education or related field is required
  • Experience with living-learning communities, faculty engagement in residence life, and residential curriculum is preferred

Additional Information

  • The Senior Director does not receive housing
  • The Senior Director does receive a meal plan
  • The Senior Director must reside within a 10-mile radius of campus, or an estimated 30-minute commute to campus for an emergency

 Compensation Range

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $117,600.00 - $160,733.33. This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position’s scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
