About The Role
The Medical Assistant works as part of the medical office team performing those clinical and clerical duties necessary to prepare patients for a visit and assist with the patient visit as needed.
- Prepare medical treatment room and set up patient care equipment
- Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results
- Keeps supplies ready by ensuring exam rooms are stocked with proper supplies.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintain supplies; performing preventative maintenance; and calling for repairs.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Prepare patients for tests or treatments
- Use sanitation practices in health care settings
- Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory tests on the premises, disposing of contaminated supplies appropriately, sterilizing medical instruments, administering medications on the premises, drawing blood, preparing patients for x-rays, taking electrocardiograms, removing sutures, changing dressings, scheduling referrals/outside diagnostics/testing appointments, administering immunizations/vaccines, maintaining vaccine records, and scheduling follow-up appointments.
- Record medical history or data, confirm purpose of visit or treatment, and verify patient information
- Weigh patients and take vital signs
- Educate patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answering questions
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines
- Serves and protects the healthcare provider by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Manages the care of patients in collaboration with other health professionals and members of the health care team in order to make decisions about treatment and attain health goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must have completed a Medical Assistant program
- Certified Medical Assistant preferred
- Must have or be able to obtain Medication Aide License through the Nebraska Medication Aide Registry
- Electronic Health Record preferred
- Strong Computer skills required
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Highly organized, attentive to detail, quality, and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure

- Strong commitment to customer service and professionalism
- Cultural sensitivity
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Bilingual preferred
