About ATNZ

Apprentice Training New Zealand (ATNZ) is a leader in creating work-based training and apprenticeship pathways in New Zealand's engineering and manufacturing sectors. We're a passionate team of people who take great pride in supporting our learners to reach their full potential. With a focus on personalised service and innovative use of technology, ATNZ plays a critical role in developing talent to meet New Zealand's growing demand for skilled workers in the trades and technical sectors.

The opportunity

We're looking for a talented and motivated Learning Designer to join our team on a fixed-term basis through to end of December 2026, to assist with increased workload associated with qualification reviews.

In this role, you'll take ownership of designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality digital learning materials that make a real difference for learners and employers.

This is a hands-on role where you'll work across the full learning design lifecycle: from stakeholder engagement and needs analysis through to wireframing, content development, and product launch.

Where you'll work

If you're based in Auckland, this role operates on a hybrid basis. If you're

located elsewhere in New Zealand, you're welcome to work fully from home. We're set up to support great work wherever you are.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing and developing engaging digital and print learning materials across a range of formats and delivery methods
  • Developing for a range of training products including apprenticeship programmes, micro-credentials, and commercial products
  • Ensuring what you produce aligns with NZQA qualification and assessment standard requirements
  • Wireframing and storyboarding new and existing products
  • Adapting and contextualising content to meet customer and learner needs
  • Continuously identifying opportunities to improve learning design and embed innovative approaches

What you'll bring

  • Some familiarity with the NZQA Framework and vocational or educational product development ( we'll support you to grow in this area)
  • Some experience with authoring tools such as Articulate Rise, or a willingness to get up to speed quickly
  • An interest in digital media — image editing, web-based content, or interactive media
  • An ability to understand learner and stakeholder needs and translate them into clear, engaging content
  • An enthusiasm for exploring how AI tools can be used to design, develop, and improve learning experiences
  • Good attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a proactive mindset
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to manage your own workload effectively

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to join an organisation with heart. We make a real difference in people's lives by creating learning pathways that lead to rewarding futures — and we'd love someone who shares that passion to join us.

On top of a great working environment with a real family feel, we offer

  • Competitive remuneration
  • Fully subsidised life insurance
  • Paid day off on your birthday
  • Paid charitable work day
  • Flexible working
  • You must be a permanent resident or New Zealand citizen to apply.
  • Apply now with your CV and a brief cover letter telling us about a learning product you're proud of.
