Job Description

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced and basic shoeing services for equine clients
  • Assist with and perform the design and construction of specialized therapeutic prescription shoes for equine foot conditions
  • Perform advanced and basic therapeutic shoeing within the LVMC
  • Assist with trimming zoo animals as needed

Teaching Support

  • Assist in teaching veterinary students the principles of basic and therapeutic shoeing
  • Assist with continuing education courses for farriers

Farrier Shop Support

  • Assist with case summary reports
  • Help maintain shop inventory
  • Support upkeep of equipment and facilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working with research projects.
  • Experience with specialized dairy farm equipment

Supervisory Experience

  • Experience working with dairy cows
  • Certified Farrier credential through the American Farriers Association

Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Journeyman Farrier credential through the American Farriers Association

  • Knowledge of basic farrier techniques
  • Ability to perform a broad range of blacksmithing work, including welding steel and aluminum
  • Ability to build a variety of specialized shoes from scratch using a forge and bar stock
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
