About The Role

Your role

Allens’ Technology M&A and Venture Capital practice is one of Australia’s leading practices in the space, and we are looking for either a Senior Associate or Associate to join Partner Dominic Anderson and our Sydney Corporate / TMT team. This is a transactionally focused role at the forefront of technology sector dealmaking — ideal for a lawyer who wants to build a sector-focused M&A practice within a top-tier firm.

Our TMT Team (ranked Band 1 by Chambers Global) is an integral part of Allens' leading Corporate practice and provides specialist expertise across all parts of the TMT spectrum . Partner, Dominic Anderson is one of the leaders of the firm’s Technology M&A and Venture Capital practice (including Allens' dedicated high growth companies practice, Allens Accelerate) and is recognised as one of Australia’s foremost advisers on technology sector transactions. His recent work spans some of the market’s most significant deals, including advising Canva on its M&A activity in Australia, Airtree Ventures on a number of its growth stage investments, and many of Australia's leading startups and emerging companies on their capital raise processes. You will work directly alongside Dominic and a high-performing team that sits at the intersection of M&A and Australia’s technology economy.

This is a standout opportunity for a lawyer with experience in private M&A, venture capital or private capital raisings, and/or high growth company advisory — working at the forefront of Australia's most dynamic and fast-moving deals

Your day to day role will typically involve a variety of transactional and advisory matters including

  • Corporate – technology sector private M&A (both buyside and sellside), venture capital transactions for investors and high growth companies, strategic investments and joint ventures.
  • Strategic advisory — cross-border and domestic transactions, corporate structuring, regulatory considerations and strategic governance advice for technology clients across all stages

You will have direct access to an exceptional deal pipeline and a client base spanning Australia’s most significant technology sector participants.

About you

You will have

  • Demonstrated M&A experience from a leading Corporate practice, with a meaningful focus on transactional work. Technology sector experience is highly regarded; private equity, venture capital or private capital raisings experience is also highly valued.
  • Australia or other common law jurisdiction experience, ideally with direct involvement in drafting and negotiation.
  • An ability to effectively manage smaller matters and elements of larger matters.
  • A willingness to participate in business development activities, such as pitch documents, firm-wide pursuits, article writing, attending industry events and hosting seminars.
  • A desire and ability to grow, both as a lawyer and as a leader.
  • A willingness to build an understanding of clients and develop effective working relationships.
  • An ability to establish a professional profile and internal networks.
  • A willingness to develop others through mentoring and sharing experiences and networks.
