Job Summary
The Monitor Technician Telemetry is responsible for ongoing surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.
Essential Functions
- C. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
Duties include but are not limited to
- Measure and interprets patients’ heart rhythm.
- Initiates and discontinues monitoring on admission, transfer or discharge, including patient information in Central Telemetry.
- Maintains Logbook.
- Answers phone and communicates clearly when receiving information from other units.
- Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
- Orients and mentors new staff.
- Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting Central Monitoring.
- Troubleshoots with nursing staff and Biomedical Engineering as appropriate.
- Gives report to oncoming shift,
- Maintains stock and designated equipment including telemetry box and lead wires.
- Reports defective equipment and failures to Biomedical Engineering.
- Performs other duties as requested.

- Completes projects/assignments within projected time frames and expectations.
- Participates in committees and task forces as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned within classification.
- Assists with the orientation process of new Monitor Technicians.

Qualifications
- High School Required or
- GED Required
- less than 1 year Previous health care experience required Required or
- currently enrolled in a nursing program preferred Preferred
- Monitor Technician experience preferred. Preferred
- Full command of English Language.
- Sufficient physical ability and perceptive acuity to perform patient care functions.
- BLS within 1 month of hire within 30 Days Required and
- completion of Dysrhythmia Course required. Upon Hire Required
