Hourly Rate

$19.75

Summary

Assists in overseeing all banquet and beverage activities. Supervises room set-ups, service and clean-up of all banquet functions. May assist in scheduling required staff for banquet functions and maintains banquet equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consults with Supervisor, Manager or Chef on such items as serving arrangements and additional employees and equipment needed.
  • Hires and supervises temporary banquet employees.
  • Requisitions table linen, china, glassware, and silverware.
  • Inspects dining room serving stations for neatness and cleanliness.
  • Ensure staff is ready and dressed in appropriate attire with name tags prior to event start time.
  • Requisition linens and other dining room supplies for tables and serving stations.
  • Inspects “side work” (prerequisites for setup/preparation and closing) assignments to ensure tasks are completed.
  • Relegates responsibility with follow-up to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness.
  • Anticipates client’s requests and automatically will provide them to guest.
  • Investigates and resolves food quality and service complaints.
  • Maintains working knowledge of P.O.S. (Point of Sale) system and does closing reports and nightly reconciliations in a professional, accurate and timely manner.
  • Assists managers in supervising all key personnel to ensure that standards of service are achieved and guest experience is positive.
  • Attends monthly department meetings.
  • Must obtain and maintain a San Diego County Food Handlers card and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

OUTCOME

The Banquet Captain plays a critical role in creating a positive guest impression and providing appropriate supervisory support to the Dining Room Team.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in supervision in the restaurant dining area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization in English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must obtain and maintain a San Diego County Food Handlers card and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, burns from hot equipment and lacerations from sharp objects. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The pace is generally moderate and may be quite fast.

SCHEDULING

This company operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Shifts will generally be rotated, as much as possible to be fair to everyone. At times it may be necessary to move you from your accustomed shift if business or task assignments demand. In addition, it should be understood that business needs determine the number of hours that you work.
