Job Description

  • Carries out environment-related desk-based research and fieldwork to collect, analyse and interpret data to determine their validity, quality and significance.
  • Carries out environmental audits and environmental impact assessments.
  • Communicates scientific and technical information to relevant audiences in an appropriate form, via reports, workshops, educational events.
  • Assists organisations to conduct their activities in an environmentally appropriate manner.
  • Implements, reviews and advises on regulatory and legislative standards, guidelines and policies.
  • Provides professional guidance to clients, government agencies, regulators and other relevant bodies, having regard for sustainable approaches and solutions.
  • Managing Development Projects
  • Meet regularly with your Line Manager to ensure Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is up to date and that you are managing your workloads appropriately with them.
  • Desk based assessments to inform Ecology reports.
  • Field Surveys for Habitats / Protected Species (according to skill set).
  • Potentially assisting with Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) duties.
  • Supporting the team with and drafting Environmental Reports (including Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment; Ecological Impact Assessment; Appropriate Assessment and Habitats Regulation Assessment, in RoI and NI as necessary).
  • Providing Clients with advice in accordance with conservation legislation and protected species licensing (according to competency and experience levels).
  • Follow health and safety guidance according to Woodrow APEM HS Statement and implement company and Client requirements for HS for yourself and others, particularly while on site.
  • Book and access equipment, tools, vehicles in the Woodrow Sligo Office to ensure you can undertake robust surveys depending on the ecological requirements for this.

Candidate Requirements

  • A third-level qualification in ecology, botany or similar.
  • Competent field skills in accordance with CIEEM Guidelines.
  • Be able to work autonomously.
  • GIS mapping experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in consultancy.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of wildlife and conservation legislation within Ireland.
  • Experience of project and client management.
  • Experience of working on field surveys with limited supervision.
  • Experience of carrying out Extended Phase 1 Habitat Assessment according to Fossitt 2000, JNCC and Heritage Survey Guidance and in accordance with CIEEM Guidelines.

Desirable

  • Full, clean EU driving license.
