About The Role

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture, capillary blood collection, and specimen collection according to laboratory standards.
  • Accurately identify patients using approved patient identification procedures.
  • Label, process, and transport specimens while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Prioritize STAT and timed laboratory collections.
  • Collect specimens from patients of all ages, including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Document specimen collection and patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Follow infection prevention, OSHA, HIPAA, and laboratory safety guidelines.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of phlebotomy supplies.
  • Collaborate with nurses, laboratory personnel, and providers to ensure timely patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training Program.
  • Washington State Medical Assistant–Phlebotomist (MA-P) credential required or eligibility to obtain prior to hire.
  • National phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, AMT, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Current BLS certification preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year of recent hospital or acute care phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.

  • Acute care hospital laboratory
  • Emergency Department specimen collection
  • Inpatient phlebotomy
  • Electronic Medical Record (Epic preferred)
  • Knowledge of laboratory specimen handling and processing
