Defence Supportability Engineer

Location: Melbourne, Australia

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Tuesday–Thursday in office)

About the Role

World Fuel Government Solutions is seeking a Supportability Engineer to support the sustainment and long-term support of complex Defence equipment throughout its lifecycle.

This role sits within our Defence engineering team and plays a critical part in ensuring that systems are maintainable, supportable, and operationally effective throughout service. Working closely with Systems Engineers, Project Teams, Defence customers, and suppliers, you will contribute to Integrated Product Support (IPS) activities that directly influence sustainment outcomes and long-term capability readiness.

This opportunity is ideally suited to an engineer with a strong understanding of mechanical systems, maintenance concepts, supportability, and Defence sustainment activities.

What You'll Be Doing

Supportability & Sustainment Engineering

• Support the development and maintenance of Integrated Product Support (IPS) deliverables across Defence programs.
• Contribute to maintenance planning and sustainment activities throughout the system lifecycle.
• Support reliability, maintainability, and supportability assessments.
• Assist with spares provisioning and support system development.
• Maintain accurate supportability data and engineering information.
• Support the development of maintenance concepts and sustainment solutions for Defence equipment.
• Contribute to technical documentation, user guides, and support artefacts.

Engineering Support

• Work closely with Systems Engineers to ensure supportability requirements are considered throughout product development.
• Assist in the management of engineering data and technical information.
• Support requirements management and technical investigations.
• Participate in engineering reviews and problem-solving activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and sustainment functions.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate with engineering, project management, procurement, quality, and supplier teams.
• Support technical discussions with Defence customers and stakeholders.
• Assist in maintaining strong working relationships across internal and external project teams.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

• Experience in Defence Supportability, Integrated Product Support (IPS), Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Sustainment Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience working with mechanical systems or complex engineered products.
• Understanding of maintenance concepts and lifecycle support activities.
• Experience supporting engineering or sustainment activities within a Defence environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage technical data accurately.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred Experience

• Mechanical Engineering background.
• Experience supporting Defence acquisition or sustainment programs.
• Exposure to IPS or ILS deliverables.
• Reliability and maintainability experience.
• Experience preparing or supporting technical publications and maintenance documentation.
• Familiarity with Defence standards and contractual deliverables.

Education

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
