At the Kepler Research Center – Advanced Optics Laboratory, we are now looking for an

AI Research Intern for Optical Field Manipulation Algorithms

We are seeking a talented research intern with a strong background in deep learning to contribute to the development of Optical Field Manipulation Algorithms, with a particular focus on LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) spatial light modulator systems.

Your Responsibilities

  • Perform research and develop novel deep-learning based algorithms for optical field manipulation, including phase pattern optimization for target far-field diffraction patterns .
  • Develop physical and data-driven models of LCoS devices to improve the accuracy and robustness of the AI-based approaches.
  • Set up experimental systems, collect and analyze measurement data, and validate the performance of predicted phase patterns.
  • Explore state-of-the-art methods in related fields, including academic publications, patents, and industry trends to identify innovative research directions.
  • Collaborate closely with team members and cross-department partners, combining both research and industry resources to achieve project objectives.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD student in optics, physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Solid foundation in wave optics, Fourier optics, diffraction, interference, and laser principles.
  • Strong theoretical and practical background in optical field manipulation and machine learning.
  • Hands-on experience with LCoS devices, end-to-end deep learning model development, or familiarity with reinforcement learning is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a structured and goal-oriented working style.
  • Enthusiastic to work as part of our international team and fluent communication skills in English.
